The Verdict | Top NBA GPP Plays, 1.11.19

Welcome, to the Judge’s Verdict. We have a nine-game NBA slate tonight, so let’s get right down to business.

Here are some of my top tournament plays for today’s slate.

Note: The numbers in parenthesis refer to the salaries of that particular player. The first number is the FanDuel (“FD”) salary, while the second number is the DraftKings (“DK”) salary.

Ben Simmons (9.3, 8.9)

We just learned that Embiid is questionable tonight vs. Atlanta. We are going to know this news before lock, but I almost wish we didn’t know. I am willing to take the risk on Simmons tonight regardless of what happens with Embiid. It’s just too easy of a matchup with too fast of a pace. Simmons should be able to get a triple-double in three quarters. Attacking Trae Young is always a smart decision in any contest.

Khris Middleton (7.2, 6.9)

The Bucks are a mess tonight with Giannis doubtful and Bledsoe questionable. This is another 7 pm ET game, so we will know the news before lock. IF Bledsoe is ruled out, Middleton gets a 14 percent usage bump!!!! Now, I haven’t slept an eight hours a night since the season started, so maybe I imagined that number – but I think that’s correct. So, Middleton could have a 40 percent usage rate tonight, which is reserved only for superstars. No stat is as important to me as usage, so I will load up on Middleton vs. an awful Washington team.

Note: On FD, I have no issue going Brogdon and Middleton in tournaments while the entire world plays Mitchell as the Jazz are down three point guards. I am using Mitchell in cash games, though.

Jae Crowder (4.8, 4.4)

Utah is down Rubio, Exum, and Nato tonight – which means they will have a tight rotation tonight with their main guys getting big minutes and usage. The industry probably will fall for the Royce O’Neale trap, while I will look to the much better an integral player for the Jazz, Jae Crowder. It makes zero difference to me that Royce is getting the start, as Crowder should be the one that sees the extra minutes and usage for Utah tonight. It’s not a play with elite upside, but at his price, this kind of safety will make a few of my lineups.

Domantas Sabonis (7.7, 7.5)

I did not want to write Sabonis’ name here, as his projected ownership is over 20 percent on DK and 35 percent on FD 90 minutes before lock. However, I like to include guys in this article that are going to make my own lineups. And once again, I just see myself having a ton of Sabonis in a cake walk matchup against the Knicks. He could play horribly tonight and still find a way to 40 fantasy points. I can differentiate at other spots tonight. It will not be hard to find the low owned players – as everyone is going to roster Bucks and Jazz players with Simmons. So, if you want to pivot, John Collins is ready to be unleashed about 10 percent ownership. I don’t mind the Sabonis/Collins combo on FD.

Take some risks, and let’s hit the Town tonight!

One guy who is going overlooked tonight is Towns. I’ve seen him projected for around five percent ownership, which is insane for a guy who can pop off 70+ fantasy points. Last game he was in foul trouble, so his stat line is meaningless. Yes, Rose is back tonight, and he will take a few shots away from Towns. However, in a tournament, I cannot pass up this type of ownership for one of the most talented centers in the entire league. Even a tad over 10K, there is upside here. I am surely not using Towns in cash, but there is easily enough value to take some shots in tournaments against a washed up Jordan and the Mavs.
