The Verdict | Top NBA GPP Plays, 3.15.19

Welcome, to the Judge’s Verdict. We have an eight-game NBA slate tonight to close out the week, so let’s get down to business.

Here are some of my top tournament plays for tonight’s slate.

Note: The numbers in parenthesis refer to the salaries of that particular player. The first number is the FanDuel (“FD”) salary, while the second number is the DraftKings (“DK”) salary.

Lillard (9.9, 9.0)

Most will pay down at PG with Mudiay and Ish (if Rjax is out), so that means we have a great chance in tournaments to spend up for a star. We saw last night that if you played Jeremy Lin – the opportunity cost of missing out on Russ/Kyrie/Fox was too great to overcome in tournaments. So, a similar scenario could happen today. Dame has had it in cruise control for most of the year, as he’s been solid most nights but not spectacular. Portland runs a lot of plays for Nurkic and McCollum, and Dame is content to let those guys get extra touches if they are hot. However, with that said, Dame gets the Pelicans without Jrue Holiday tonight. We’ve been attacking Elf defense for years, so this is an elite spot for Dame in a game with a 234 over/under.

James Harden (12.5, 11.0)

We don’t need to overthink this one tonight with CP3 out. Harden’s usage without CP3 is 44.5% (almost 9% bump), and he has a whopping 46.5% assist rate. Oh, and he’s averaging 68/72 FD and DK points, respectively. This time of year it is hard to trust any players, but Harden against Phoenix tonight is as safe as it gets. Devin Booker would be an interesting pairing tonight with Harden, as would Eric Gordon. I have zero issue with rolling out both Harden/Gordon as your two SGs on FD.

Site-Dependent at SF

On FD, I want and need to spend down. This is a good spot to punt with Gerald (3.5K) or Jeff Green (4.5K). And Nic Batum (6.0K) keeps staring at me on FD with his 35+ minutes and matchup vs. the Wizards looming in a 233 over/under game. On DK, two more Hornets stand out – Lamb at 5.8K and Marvin Williams at 4.6K. If I had to choose, give me the savings with Marvin tonight. Lastly, a sneaky play on DK may be Aminu at 4.1K, as he may get a few extra minutes with Mo Harkless out in a pace up spot vs. the Pelicans.

NEVER BLAKE?

Last article we wrote the following:

Blake has been under 40 fantasy points in nine out of his last 11 games and has cost me a small house at this point. I will roster him again simply out of pure stubbornness. However, I will NEVER recommend his lifeless and soulless body again.

Well, Blake was AWFUL once again so make it under 40 fantasy points in 10 out of his last 12 games now. He gets a dream matchup vs. the tanking Lakers tonight, but he’s been an embarrassment on the court so play him at your own risk. On FD tonight, I like Marvin and Aminu and have no issue with using them together. I also will have some exposure to Bobby Portis, who continues to average over a fantasy point per minute since joining the Wizards. The beauty of DK is that Marvin/Aminu are both SF and PF eligible – so it looks like I’ll have a lot riding on the Wizards/Charlotte and Portland/New Orleans games.

Hernangomez in cash but prefer Drummond (10.0, 8.8)

Cody Zeller is doubtful, so most will try the enigma that is Willy Hernangomez at center. This is much easier to do on DK where you can play multiple centers. On FD, the opportunity cost of using Hernangomez may be too much to overcome in tournaments. So, I will be trying to spend up when I can on Drummond vs. the Clippers. Unlike his comatose teammate Blake, Drummond (besides the last game where Miami blew them out) has been fantastic. The Lakers are so depleted in the frontcourt, so Drummond should be able to feast on the dynamic duo of McGee/Wagner all night.

Alright, the Judge’s Verdict is in and it is final. Good luck tonight!
