Welcome, to the Judge’s Verdict. We have an excellent nine-game NBA slate to close out the week, so let’s get down to business.
Here are some of my top tournament plays for tonight’s slate.
Note: The numbers in parenthesis refer to the salaries of that particular player. The first number is the FanDuel (“FD”) salary, while the second number is the DraftKings (“DK”) salary.
Kemba Walker (9.0, 8.1)
Elf and Kemba are probably my cash game plays at PG, but honestly, I may use both in tournaments too. Curry would be one guy I might pivot to off of Kemba in a few lineups. However, Kemba gets the second tastiest matchup in all of DFS (besides Trae Young and the Hawks). The Hornets are expected to score 120 points tonight, and Kemba is averaging over 38 minutes per game over the last couple weeks as they fight for a playoff spot. The Wizards are 27th in defensive efficiency against point guards, and Kemba’s usage is 31% on the year. Given the above, Kemba is severely underpriced on this slate.
Jeremy Lamb (FD: 6.6)/Gary Harris (DK: 4.0)
Shooting guard depends on the site for me tonight, as Gary Harris is simply too cheap on DK at 4K. This price is beyond perplexing for me, as Harris is trending in the right direction – and his price should be on the rise. He finally looks healthy, as last game was the most minutes (29) he’s played since coming back from injury. The Nuggets desperately need Harris, as he’s their best perimeter defender by a mile, so I expect him to see close to 30 minutes tonight in a marquee matchup against the Warriors.
Lamb doesn’t need much of an explanation except to say he’s facing the Wizards, and he’s been great in his new role off the bench. The last game against Miami was an anomaly, as Miami is now locked in defensively – the polar opposite of the Wizards. Lamb should get the matchup, minutes, usage tonight similar to his teammate Kemba.
Joe Ingles (6.2, 5.8)
With Rubio and Neto out for Utah, Mitchell and Ingles became excellent tournament plays tonight in an awful matchup. Most will also play dirt cheap Royce to get some savings at the SF position. I expect Bradley to make Mitchell’s life tough tonight, so Ingles should have the chance to thrive in a playmaking role. The industry projects Ingles to be under 10% on FD and 5% on DK, and that makes this play a great way for us to differentiate from the field. Ingles has averaged over 10 pts, 10 assists, and 5 rebounds over the last 4 games, so I think Ingles is being severely overlooked tonight.
Blake Griffin (8.5, 8.6)
I am not a fan of PF, and I am going to let my builds dictate whether I spend up or down at this spot. Marvin and Frank against the Wizards will be popular tonight, and they keep making my lineups when I use optimizers. If I’m spending up, though, I will continue to be stubborn and try Blake. He’s been a man without a ceiling lately, as he watches Drummond dominate slate after slate. Blake has been in the 30s for fantasy points in the last four games and 30 or less in the last 8/9 games. So, I am not confident in this pick at all. Kevin Love appears to have the bigger upside at essentially the same price (and cheaper on DK). However, Love gets the stout defense of Miami. I envision me spending down at this spot a lot, but the stubbornness in me will once again try Blake, as he should be able to score at ease against the statuesque defense of Markkanen.
Clint Capela (7.5, 6.7)
I have been rostering Clint every slate that Faried is out (he’s out again tonight), and slowly he’s starting to regain his form since coming back from injury. The minutes have been great (33+) in six out of the last seven games. The usage is awful, but his rebounds and activity on the defensive end have been trending in the right direction. Tonight, Clint gets a Philly team that is depleted in the frontcourt without Embiid, so there should be no resistance at the room. His price is too cheap on DK, and we’ve seen that he has 50+ fantasy point upside earlier this season. Clint is an elite tournament play tonight even though he may be popular.
Alright, the Judge’s Verdict is in and it is final. Good luck tonight!
