Welcome, to the Judge’s Verdict. We have an excellent eight-game NBA slate tonight, but we have lots of new players on teams for the first time. So, we are going to have to make educated guesses as to the roles/minutes for several players. To that end, let’s be smart with our bankroll tonight.
Here are some of my top tournament plays for tonight’s NBA slate.
Note: The numbers in parenthesis refer to the salaries of that particular player. The first number is the FanDuel (“FD”) salary, while the second number is the DraftKings (“DK”) salary.
Colin Sexton (5.0, 4.5)
I have played Sexton so much this season, and it has mostly been a disappointing experience. My biggest issues with him have been the lack of usage and peripheral stats. He normally goes long stretches without looking at the basket, which causes me to start screaming at him to shoot. However, the Cavs are still banged up and traded away Burks. And last game, I saw a different Sexton against a stingy Boston team. He lit them up for 27 points on 11-24 shooting in 42 minutes. His price barely went up, and he gets an NBA fantasy gold matchup against the Wizards tonight. So, I have no issue going back to Sexton once again tonight.
Andrew Wiggins (6.0, 6.0)
I wrote about Wiggins yesterday, went all in on him, and it paid off. Here is what I wrote:
“I am never a fan of rostering Wiggins, but at least we know the minutes will be there – as he’s played 34+ in 9 straight games. The problem with Wiggins is he simply cannot make a shot right now: in his last three games, he is shooting 13-47! That is almost impossible. However, we love the minutes and the usage, and his price has come down on all sites. His shot will fall eventually and when it does he will get us easy 40+ fantasy points. “
Well, he still shot horribly last night at 10-28!!!! However, that kind of usage is how you win tournaments, and he stuffed the stat sheet to get us over 50 fantasy points. Now, we have 34+ minutes in 10 straight games and he’s shooting 23-75 in his last four games. Eventually, he will make shots, and when he does – the upside is 60+. SG is loaded tonight, so I don’t think you have to play him, plus I am slightly concerned about Jrue Holiday defense. However, a 231 over/under and the minutes + usage make him an excellent tournament play again.
Justise Winslow (5.8, 5.5)
All signs have been trending down with Winslow in the past couple weeks. Winslow hasn’t shot over 50% from the field since January 25, and he hasn’t scored over 14 real points in the last five games. However, the minutes have still been solid (approx. 34 per game), and he gets the best pace up matchup in the world vs. the Kings. Also, his price is way down due to his poor play. So, tonight feels like a spot where we can take a shot on Winslow. Not to mention, SF is not ideal tonight. I don’t love this play, but it does make sense tonight.
Lauri Markkanen (8.1, 7.0)
Portis is gone and Markkanen is going to play massive minutes with massive usage the rest of the year. He was very average last game and put up 30 points and 10 rebounds in 41 minutes on 10-19 shooting. I honestly am expecting another 35+ minute night and 20 shots against Brooklyn. Not to mention, he could play some center tonight depending on what Boylen does with the new Bull’s rotation. We all know that we want to attack Brookly bigs, so this is just a smash spot for Lauri.
Andre Drummond (10.0, 8.6)
I’ve been printing money with Drummond lately, and he’s still too cheap on DK. I obviously love Jokic, Embiid, Towns tonight too, but if you need the savings – roster sleepy Drummond with confidence tonight against the Knicks. He just gets fantasy points so easily, and the Knicks big men will offer no resistance (he just put up 50 on the Knicks a couple days ago). He doesn’t have the same ceiling as the three top centers – but the savings just allow me to build better overall lineups tonight.
Alright, the Judge’s Verdict is in and it is final. Good luck tonight!
