The Verdict | Top NBA GPP Plays, 2.6.19

Welcome, to the Judge’s Verdict. We have a tricky seven-game NBA slate on Wednesday with Spurs chalk taunting us, so let’s be smart with our bankroll tonight.

Here are some of my top tournament plays for tonight’s slate.

Note: The numbers in parenthesis refer to the salaries of that particular player. The first number is the FanDuel (“FD”) salary, while the second number is the DraftKings (“DK”) salary.

Kemba Walker (9.3, 8.8)

Kemba got off to a blistering start this year, and then he significantly cooled as teams started to gameplan entirely against him (since Charlotte has no one else to score). Kemba also looked disinterested and frustrated at times, and he became a tad passive during games. However, lately, Kemba appears to have made some adjustments – as in February he is averaging 31 points, 5 rebounds, 8 assists, 1 steal, and 5 three-pointers. Yes, this is only a three-game sample size, but it is promising. I am a tad worried about the back to back, and Kemba notoriously is a better player at home – but still, he has massive upside against a fun Dallas team that is morphing into one that doesn’t care much about defense. I think guys like Dunn and Rubio are also interesting tonight – but Dunn has cost me a small fortune this year, so I refuse to write about him again until he finally has that ceiling game we need.

Jrue Holiday (9.4, 9.0)

On a slate filled with traps, I want some safety in my lineups tonight – and there is no safer play in all of DFS than Jrue. Two Holiday brothers were in winning lineups last night, so why can’t we have one in the wining lineups tonight? The Pelicans are still without Mirotic, Elf, Moore, and Randle is a game-time decision. The Bulls normally play so slow it pains your soul to watch them on television, but I’m hoping this game lives up to the 226 Vegas total. If it does, Jrue is going to walk into 40 fantasy points just by playing his normal minutes. And if he can stuff the stat sheet with defensive numbers – we are looking at close to 60 tonight.

Rudy Gay/Bertans

I love this duo tonight on both sites, and those of you who read my daily article know that I refer to using two players at the same position on the same team on FanDuel as “The Judge’s Special.” And tonight, this shall be my favorite special. I expect both these guys to be popular, but that’s fine with me. I actually probably slightly prefer Bertans over Rudy just because Pop is treating this like a scheduled loss – so he may pull Rudy early against the Warriors once the game gets out of hand. Whereas, Bertans should be blowout proof. But Rudy’s 9% usage bump (33% overall) and 1.6 fantasy pointer per minute without Demar, LMA, and White are too tough for me to ignore tonight.

Note: My sneaky Spur tonight is Lonnie Walker, as most will look to Bertans, Gay, Mills, and Marco…even Poetl/Gasol. The local media in San Antonio has stated that Walker will get a chance tonight to show what he can do against the Warriors.

Anyone but Josh Jackson (6.4, 5.5)

Josh Jackson has failed me so much this year when Booker has been out, and I honestly think Oubre is a safer play (with similar upside). But, I am a sucker for usage, and his 5% usage bump and 30% overall make him appealing for me in tournaments even against Utah (in what Vegas thinks will be a massive blowout). I would NOT play Jackson in cash games. Williams from the Pelicans, Bagley, Portis, and Faried are all probably safer and solid plays in both formats tonight. However, if I see that Jackson’s projected ownership is going to be around 10% or so – I will take a few shots in tournaments.

Attacking Brooklyn Centers

Denver plays Brooklyn tonight, and the good news is that we should know the injury news before lock. For me, it’s pretty simple tonight. If Millsap is out – I am playing Plumlee. If Millsap is in – I am playing Jokic. And tonight, I think it is perfectly fine to play both Plumlee and Jokic if Millsap is indeed out. Jokic over his last three games against the Nets is averaging (gulp) 64.13 FD pts and 65.75 DK points. So, roster Denver centers with glee tonight.

Alright, the Judge’s Verdict is in and it is final. Good luck tonight!
