Welcome, to the Judge’s Verdict. We have an excellent eight-game NBA slate Tuesday, so let’s get down to business.
Here are some of my top tournament plays for tonight’s slate.
Note: The numbers in parenthesis refer to the salaries of that particular player. The first number is the FanDuel (“FD”) salary, while the second number is the DraftKings (“DK”) salary.
Terry Rozier (7.0, 6.7)
Everyone appears to be overlooking Rozier tonight, and I guess it is because of his price. However, without Kyrie, this is a fair price tag and still might be a tad too cheap against a disastrous Cavs team. I am seeing a lot of love for the corpse of Bayless, who has been resurrected with the Wolves missing all their point guards. But in a tournament, give me the upside of Scary Terry tonight with less than 10% ownership.
Cavs SGs: Clarkson, Burks, Nwaba?
Boston/Cleveland is an intriguing game tonight because Kyrie is out for the Celtics and Osman, Hood (traded), and Thompson are out for the Cavs. Brown will be the most popular play, and a guy I pug into most of my lineups. But, I also will be looking to target some Cavs SGs – as someone has to play minutes, get usage, and score points. I prefer Clarkson, as I prefer usage over anything in tournaments. However, Burks is an OK pivot and if you need the savings, and you can take a chance with Nwaba at close to the minimum on both sites if you need the savings. I like Nwaba much more on FD because of the dropped score because his minutes are allegedly being monitored since coming back from injury (only 15 minutes last game).
LeBron (10.8, 10.7)
I am not a fan of LeBron tonight in a vacuum. However, we might be able to get a motivated LeBron at 10-15% ownership. Rumors are obviously swirling right now, as the Lakers have essentially offered their entire team for AD. No one really knows how the Lakers will react – and I am not proclaiming to know either. However, LeBron is rested and the entire world will be watching the Lakers until the trade deadline. He could be the highest scoring guy on the entire slate, and in tournaments – I am willing to take a chance in an otherwise ugly game against Indiana.
Domantas Sabonis (6.3, 5.6)
I wrote the following yesterday on Sabonis: “All signs have been trending downward for Sabonis lately. He was a fantasy point per minute monster the first couple months of the season, and he came through almost every game for us. Lately, that has not been the case. He hasn’t played more than 24 minutes in his last four games, and he’s 1-16 from the field in his last two. That is crazy, as he takes almost all of his shots within five feet of the basket. “
Well, Sabonis came through for us yesterday and showed signs of life. He shot 7-9 from the field for 16 points and 13 rebounds. The issue was minutes, as he only got 23 which limited his upside. But, he played excellently and dominated when he was out there. And tonight, Myles Turner is questionable. If Turner gets ruled out, I am going all in on Sabonis tonight. He is going to eat alive the Lakers frontcourt. I liked what I saw last night, and I am ready to pounce on Sabonis tonight.
Note: I still do not mind Sabonis in tournaments if Turner is in.
Andre Drummond (9.3, 8.2)
I wrote about Drummond yesterday because he has looked great since coming back from his concussion, is underpriced, and loved his matchup vs. Denver (which now stinks defensively without Millsap/Harris). Drummond obliterated Jokic and Denver last night and had over 50 fantasy points in less than three quarters. A blowout prevented a 5% Drummond from helping us take down tournaments. Tonight, he gets a Knicks team that is a joke. I don’t care who the Knicks put out there: Jordan, Vonleh, Kanter, Robinson – Drummond will destroy them all. He should be fresh because he didn’t have to play a lot of minutes last night, and he just has to stay awake and on the court to come through for us tonight.
Alright, the Judge’s Verdict is in and it is final. Good luck tonight!
