Welcome, to the Judge’s Verdict. We have a nice six-game NBA slate to start the week, so let’s get down to business.
Here are some of my top tournament plays for tonight’s slate.
Note: The numbers in parenthesis refer to the salaries of that particular player. The first number is the FanDuel (“FD”) salary, while the second number is the DraftKings (“DK”) salary.
Chris Paul (7.3, 6.6)
At some point, Harden will want a little help, right? CP3 rested last game, and he should play 30-32 minutes tonight. I would be wary if the Rockets had a back to back, as it would make sense to be cautious with CP3 going forward – but the Rockets only play three games this week. It is no secret that we want to attack Phoenix, so this is an excellent spot for CP3 to stuff the stat sheet with ease. This is just the ideal matchup for him to work himself back into game shape and to ease Harden’s workload. CP3 still has 50 fantasy point upside, and I want exposure before his price rises back up to 8K. Also, CP3 may get a few more minutes/usage with Eric Gordon out tonight.
Demar DeRozan (7.8, 7.5)
Demar just hasn’t looked right for the last couple weeks, as he has been dealing with some nagging injuries. Tonight, he gets a warp speed video game matchup against the Kings (229 Over/Under), and Derrick White is out. Demar sees a massive 33% usage without White (this seems insane), and he should take over the primary ball-handling responsibilities too. So, given that his price is down, pace up matchup, and increased usage – I love this spot tonight for Demar.
Otto Porter (6.6, 5.9)
The top fantasy game of the night is probably Hawks/Wizards (230 Over/Under), so I am trying to get exposure to this game. Otto appears to be my top choice as of now. He has moved back into the starting lineup for the Wizards, and he played excellent against the Bucks last game with 18 points, 7 rebounds and 4 steals in 34 minutes. Porter was built to play in a pace up game with his ability to rack up defensive stats. While he hasn’t been shooting great in the last few weeks, the shot attempts are there for him to put up a big number tonight. His salary is too cheap given the matchup.
Domantas Sabonis (6.2, 5.5)
All signs have been trending downward for Sabonis lately. He was a fantasy point per minute monster the first couple months of the season, and he came through almost every game for us. Lately, that has not been the case. He hasn’t played more than 24 minutes in his last four games, and he’s 1-16 from the field in his last two. That is crazy, as he takes almost all of his shots within five feet of the basket. I remember writing this exact same thing about Nurkic six weeks ago before he went on a stretch where he became the Blazers’ best player (even over Dame). I could foresee a similar stretch coming for Sabonis, especially since Dipo is gone for the season. Eventually, the Pacers are going to give Sabonis big minutes (unless they can get a ton of assets back in a trade) – and his numbers will trend back up shortly. As with the three guys above, I am looking to roster guys when their prices are down – so tonight I will take a shot on Sabonis vs. an awful Pelicans team.
Andre Drummond (9.3, 8.2)
I would never play Drummond in a cash game, but I am tempted tonight as he squares off against defensively challenged Jokic. My theme the entire article today was attacking guys based who are a tad too cheap, and Drummond falls into this category (especially on DK). Also, I do not love the center position tonight, as Okafor appears to be the top play. Drummond was in foul trouble in his last game, but I watched him sleepily put up 24 points and 20 rebounds against Dallas last week. I am a tad worried Jokic will have Drummond far away from the hoop, but I envision Drummond getting some easy putbacks on the offensive end tonight. If he plays his regular 35+ minutes, he is going to get 40 fantasy points, and he is a few blocks away from 50+.
Alright, the Judge’s Verdict is in and it is final. Good luck tonight!
