MLB DFS Batter Breakdown – Red Sox going off – The Quant Edge

What a wild 15-game MLB DFS slate last night. The Coors chalk went off, but there was plenty of other offense to profit on as well. Tonight, we have a 14-game slate on tap with plenty of offense to target once again. We have at least nine-game totals over 9 right now with a ton of team totals over 5. Coors will be chalky again and it’s hard not to love the spots, especially for the Astros. But, there are other spots like the Twins vs the A’s, Braves vs Pivetta, the Red Sox popping off in Toronto and many more so let’s dive into today’s MLB DFS Batter Breakdown.

A $4600 James McCann seems like something we would never see, but here we are and he’s in a great spot tonight vs Tyler Alexander tonight. Going into Tuesday night, McCann was hitting .321 vs LHP with a .410 wOBA. If dropping below $4K, then Brian McCann is in play vs Nick Pivetta. McCann already has 1 home run off Pivetta and overall, Pivetta has struggled vs LHH this season. Lefties have a .359 wOBA, 2.1 HR/9 and a 46% HH rate vs Pivetta this season. A few other options would be Jason Castro, Stephen Vogt and Francisco Mejia.

First Base

Cash- Here’s another piece of repeatable news, but Freddie Freeman is another really good cash game play tonight if paying up. If you want to save some cash, then go down a bit for Eric Hosmer, who has been playing really well of late and faces Shaun Anderson, who has been quite the pitch to content arm this season. So far this year, LHH are hitting .295 vs Anderson with a .339 wOBA and a 44% HH rate. Yuli Gurriel (who double donged on Tuesday) vs Lambert in Coors and the lefty masher Jose Abreu vs Alexander are other really solid cash game looks in the mid $4K range. Coming into Tuesday night, Joey Votto had been hitting .414 over his last eight games with a .477 wOBA and gets Chacin tonight, who is giving up a 52% HH rate to lefties this season. If looking to punt, then check out Matt Beaty of the Dodgers for $3300.

GPP- Eric Thames comes into tonight’s action on fire. He’s riding a six-game hitting streak where he’s hitting .421 with a 1.158 SLG and a 64% HH rate. He’ll be facing Sonny Gray, who has been good this season but is still giving up a 42% HH rate to LHH and is pitching in the Great American Small Park after all. Hunter Dozier has actually shown some nice power vs RHP this season and makes for a super low owned GPP play. So does Matt Olson. If wanting to go YOLO at the position, then look into Paul Goldschmidt at only $3500. Yes, he’s been struggling but he’s really cheap and gets Leake tonight. On the season, RHH are hitting .274 with a .336 wOBA and 2.5 HR/9 vs Leake this season.

Second Base

Cash- You have DJ LeMahieu all the way up top. But the easy way out in cash is just playing Jose Altuve at a price that is still too cheap. He continued to heat up after returning from the IL with a 4 hit game last night and a stolen base. Ozzie Albies will look to stay hot vs Nick Pivetta and is in play as most of the Braves will be overlooked tonight. Most of the pricier 2B options are GPP plays, but there are some punts in play at the position. Look into Adam Frazier, Brock Holt and Luis Arraez.

GPP- If paying up and getting really weird, then Lourdes Gurriel Jr, who has been crushing LHP is a super GPP play vs Sale, is a great option. Danny Santana and Mike Moustakas are both in play tonight in your GPP lineups. If going cheaper, I will continue to go back to Scooter Gennett, who has been really bad in his four games since returning from the IL but faces Chacin, who is giving up a .345 wOBA and a 52% HH rate to LHH this season. Rougned Odor is always a GPP punt when in Texas as well.

Third Base

Cash- Alex Bregman and Nolan Arenado are in smash spots in Coors tonight – Bregman is my priority of the two. Hey look, Rafael Devers mashed again last night, and hey look, he has a great spot again tonight. Devers is a nice pivot off the Coors duo. Yuli Gurriel is definitely in play here if you don’t play him at 1B in cash. If looking for a punt at 3B in cash, then target Kyle Seager vs Waino or Marwin Gonzalez vs Mike Fiers.

GPP- Manny Machado is returning from his one-game suspension tonight and should be extremely low owned tonight vs Shaun Anderson. Yoan Moncada could be the sneaky play in a GPP vs the lefty Alexander. Moncada has improved his skills vs LHP in a big way this season and could take advantage of Alexander in his debut. Eugenio Suarez is hitting .471 over his four-game hitting streak and has homered in three straight games. He’s facing Chacin tonight who has been horrible this season and Suarez has a great chance of homering in his fourth straight game tonight. Hunter Dozier, Jose Ramirez and Colin Moran make for some nice, cheaper options.

Cash- Alex Bregman is definitely the high priced option, but there are a couple of options in the mid $4K range. Francisco Lindor is a daily cash game target and gets Danny Duffy tonight, who Lindor has had decent success against in his career. The other option would be Trevor Story in Coors vs a LHP. Jorge Polanco vs Fiers is a solid option as Polanco is hitting .326 with a .401 wOBA vs RHP this season. Didi Gregorius and Willy Adames are cheaper options as well.

GPP- Manny Machado is eligible at SS just as he is at 3B and is in play. Two pretty contrarian plays really have my attention if paying up at SS. Adalberto Mondesi returned from the IL and went deep. He faces Clevinger tonight, who has been a mess since returning from the IL. He could easily deal tonight but for a super low owned target, Mondesi could be nice. The other target is Dansby Swanson, who has been crushing LHP this season but is still holding his own vs RHP with a .336 wOBA and a 43% HH rate. Pivetta has been a mess vs both sides of the plate and Swanson makes for a nice stack piece in a GPP. Jean Segura, Paul DeJong and Amed Rosario are all cheaper options.

Cash- You start in Coors with Blackmon and Dahl for the Rockies, Brantley, Springer, Alvarez and Reddick for the Astros. Christian Yelich is in another great spot tonight and is my favorite pay up IF not playing in Coors tonight. The Red Sox are in a smash spot tonight and way too cheap. Target Mookie Betts, JD Martinez and JBJ. The Angels will look to go off again tonight, which means Mike Trout is a great play. Don’t sleep on his teammates Shohei Ohtani, Justin Upton and Kole Calhoun. The Twins are in another great spot tonight, and Max Kepler and Marwin Gonzalez are in play. Big fan of the Braves tonight so keep Ronald Acuna and Nick Markakis in mind. Waino hasn’t been good this year, Domingo Santana and Mallex Smith are solid.

GPP- The Rangers could be interesting tonight vs Canning, starting with Joey Gallo. Don’t sleep on his teammates Nomar Mazara, Choo and Willie Calhoun. The Reds are so sneaky nice tonight, which means Nick Senzel, Yasiel Puig and if Jesse Winker is playing, then I am really in on him too. If you are getting really weird, then remember Lourdes Gurriel Jr, Grichuk and Teoscar vs Sale. The Giants went off the last two nights and are in an intriguing spot again tonight – target Kevin Pillar and Alex Dickerson.

So many ways to go tonight, listen into MLB DFS Quick HIts for all the options.
