After a rough set of Thursday slates, the MLB DFS Batter Breakdown is back on Friday with a banger of a 14-game slate. There are some really nice pitchers to use in your lineups tonight, but like usual, there are plenty of nice pitchers to target with the bats.
We have Coors in play with an outstanding spot for the Dodgers to keep crushing, but it’s not all about Coors tonight. We have some sneaky looks with the Jays and Royals, the Twins looking to take care of the White Sox and the Pirates vs Chacin. Let’s take a look at all of our top cash and GPP plays in tonight’s MLB DFS Batter Breakdown.
Mitch Garver, Yasmani Grandal and Willson Contreras are all really good plays if paying up for catcher, but that isn’t necessary tonight. With the Dodgers in Coors, you could get a nice saving on some Coors action with Will Smith if he’s in the lineup. Francisco Mejia was recalled a little over a week ago and has started in six of the last seven Padres games. Over that time, he’s hit safely in five of those six games, hitting over .300 with 2 home runs. He’s a nice value tonight vs Wacha.
Cash- Max Muncy in Coors is definitely cash relevant. But, if you want a nice ownership pivot, you can play Josh Bell, who’s just $100 cheaper. Bell went deep again yesterday and now faces Chacin, who’s giving up a .365 wOBA, .439 SLG and a 50.5% HH rate vs LHP this season. PSST….. The Pirates are a great play tonight. Sean Reid-Foley returns for the Jays tonight and that means the Royals are in play. Hunter Dozier has returned from the IL and already hit 2 homers in just a few games. On the season, Dozier is hitting .318 with a .421 wOBA and a 43% HH rate vs RHP…..most won’t even look at Dozier with it being righty-righty. Eric Hosmer, Matt Beaty and Matt Olson are also in play for cash.
GPP- Tim Means returns for the Orioles tonight and he’s been good, but you can’t ignore the first time all-star Carlos Santana. On the season, Santana is hitting .312 with a .387 wOBA and a 52% HH rate vs LHP. Anthony Rizzo vs Sonny Gray in Great American Small Park is in play, as well as C.J. Cron vs the lefty Justin Nicolino, who will be in after the opener. Lastly, at around $4K, don’t forget about Paul Goldschmidt, who will be returning to the NL West to face Eric Lauer. On the season, Goldy has a .359 wOBA and a 57% HH rate vs LHP and no one will own him tonight.
Cash- You can pay up for Max Muncy or Ketel Marte, but there are some very solid options just below. Mike Moustakas is in a great spot vs Chris Archer as well as his counterpart in the same game, Kevin Newman, who extended his hitting streak to 17 games yesterday. Over that stretch, he’s hitting .397 with a .427 wOBA. When it comes to cash, Jose Altuve is a great cash game play. He’s affordable at $3900 and has a solid matchup vs Tommy Milone. Altuve is riding a seven-game hitting streak where he’s hitting .355 with 4 extra base hits and a .388 wOBA. On the season, Altuve is hitting .385 and a .514 wOBA vs LHP. Great spot for cash tonight.
GPP- For GPPs, it starts up top with Lourdes Gurriel Jr, who has been scorching hot and now has received a massive price bump that will leave him unowned. On the season, he’s mashing LHP to the tune of a .344 average, .455 wOBA and a 51% HH rate. He’ll be facing Danny Duffy tonight. Kiké Hernandez is in Coors tonight and makes for a very nice play vs Senzatela. RHH are hitting .271 with a .354 wOBA this season vs Chris Archer. Keston Hiura is back and he’s been absolutely crushing it at AAA since his ridiculous demotion. Jonathan Schoop and Luis Rengifo make for some cheaper options tonight.
Cash- The Nats are in a great cash game spot vs Daniel Norris and that means Anthony Rendon and Howie Kendrick are both great cash game plays tonight. Justin Turner coming off another solid night in Coors will look to do it again vs Senzatela and has a great chance of doing that. If targeting a lower priced 3B then look at Colin Moran vs Chacin. Tonight 3B is very top heavy, especially for cash. (Moose and Bregman for starters.)
GPP- We always love Nolan Arenado at home, especially vs LHP. Tonight, he faces Ryu, who has been outstanding, but Arenado will look to add to his 12-21 stretch vs Ryu, not to mention his 3 doubles and 3 home runs. Kris Bryant vs Gray in the Great American Small park is quite intriguing in GPPs. Eugenio Suarez mashes LHP and is at home tonight, but faces Cole Hamels, who has been very solid this season. He’s only $3700 and very much in play for your GPP lineups if you are good with the risk. Lastly, if you are just punting, then it’s all about VLADITO at only $3400 vs Duffy. Yes, Vlad has struggled and been super inconsistent, but in GPPs at that price, you have to be intrigued with Vlad.
Cash- Chris Taylor and Kevin Newman are definitely cash game relevant, but don’t sleep on Trea Turner, who should have some chances to get on and swipe some bags vs Norris and that bad Tigers pen. If not paying up at SS, then I am all about taking Jorge Polanco at a bit of a discount compared to the other options at SS. Polanco has been money all season and is coming in hitting safely in 10 of his last 11 games. He gets the oh so bad White Sox pitching tonight. If looking for value, then go Marcus Semien, full punt with Miguel Rojas or his teammate J.T. Riddle.
GPP- Shortstop is loaded for GPPs tonight. Javy Baez and Manny Machado come into tonight’s action streaking with pretty decent matchups. Paul DeJong usually mashes RHP but is a solid GPP look vs Lauer, who is giving up a 46% HH rate to RHH this season. Jean Segura has hit safely in seven of his last eight games for a .306 average and get Hernandez tonight. If going full punt, keep an eye on Jose Iglesias vs Hamels.
Cash- Obviously, you have Coors tonight and that means Cody Bellinger, Joc Pederson and Alex Verdugo are all really solid plays vs Senzatela. The Twins are in a sweet spot tonight and Max Kepler is back in play with Nelson Cruz. The Brewers are facing the mess that is Chris Archer and that means Christian Yelich is in a smash spot tonight and don’t sleep on Ryan Braun tonight. Mike Fiers is on the bump for the A’s so get your Halos ready, such as Mike Trout, Shohei Ohtani and Kole Calhoun. Shaun Anderson has pitched to a lot of contact for the Giants this season, making Ketel Marte, David Peralta and Adam Jones in play. Juan Soto and Victor Robles are solid looks vs Norris, but keep an eye on a possible punt with Michael A Taylor. I am a big fan of the Pirates tonight and that means Bryan Reynolds, CDick and Starling Marte.
GPP- Sure it’s Coors, and Ryu is solid, but Charlie Blackmon and David Dahl are still solid looks. The Astros bats have been quiet of late and Milone has been good, don’t sleep on George Springer and some of the other Astros options. The Jays are always streaky but are in a great spot vs Duffy so look into Lourdes Gurriel Jr, Randal Grichuk and Teoscar Hernandez. With Reid-Foley returning for the Jays, keep an eye on Jorge Soler for the Royals.
So many OF options, so definitely listen into MLB DFS Quick Hits to get the full run down.
