MLB DFS Batter Breakdown – Phillies vs Lockett – The Quant Edge

Welcome back to another edition of the TQE Batter Breakdown. We had a wild one last night as expected, all the offense. Tonight won’t be much different as we have 15 games on tap and at least nine of the 15 games will have totals over 9. So many IRT over 5 tonight as well. We will have the normal chalk spots, but as I mentioned on today’s edition of MLB DFS Quick Hits, there are some really nice, potentially lower owned plays tonight. One of those spots involves the Phillies vs Lockett. Let’s see who we like for your cash and GPP lineups in tonight’s MLB DFS Batter Breakdown.

Obviously, Gary Sanchez is always a GPP play, but you can save a few hundred tonight and playing Willson Contreras vs Fried. Contreras has a .366 wOBA and a .479 SLG vs LHP this season and with the wind blowing out vs Fried, it could result in another long ball for Willson. If looking for more savings, you can go to Wilson Ramos vs pitch to contact Arriets or drop below $4K with J.T. Realmuto. Realmuto snapped an 0-19 skid last night with a triple and will look to keep it rolling tonight vs Lockett. Pedro Severino and either of the Padres catchers are also in play tonight.

First Base

Cash- If paying up at 1B for cash then it’s all about Carlos Santana, who has been red hot, averaging almost 12 DK points per game over his last 10 games. He faces Sparkman tonight, who is giving up a .351 wOBA, 2.5 HR/9 and a 48% HH rate vs LHH this season. Rhys Hoskins went deep last night and is another great spot tonight vs Lockett or Eric Hosmer vs the Orioles pen both make for solid mid $4K cash options. When looking to save a little at 1B you can go with Santana’s teammate, Bobby Bradley, who is hitting it hard in his first two games, just like he did in the minors.

GPP- In your GPPs, you have the Freddie Freeman and Anthony Rizzo spots to pay up for but in that same range is Edwin Encarnacion, who should get overlooked in that range and that’s just fine for me in a GPP. This season, E5 has a .363 wOBA and a .515 SLG vs LHP this season. When going cheaper, there’s E5’s teammate Luke Voit. Jose Abreu makes for a nice GPP play vs David Price. Abreu took ERod deep last night and has crushed LHP this season. He’s hitting .343 with a .396 wOBA and a .941 OPS vs LHP this season. A couple of other GPP punts would be Matt Olson, Renato Nunez and Jesus Aguilar.

Second Base

Cash- For cash, it all starts with D.J. LeMahieu, who has been on an absolute tear. He currently has a 10-game hitting streak where he’s hitting .452 with a .524 wOBA and 6 multi-hit games. Jeff McNeil is hitting .429 with 6 extra base hits over his last seven games and gets a pitch to contact Arrieta tonight, making him a nice cash game play. Jason Kipnis picked up 3 more hits last night, extending his hitting streak to seven games where he’s hitting .520 over that stretch, and he faces Sparkman tonight. If looking to just punt, then Tommy La Stella vs Tyler Mahle and Jose Altuve vs Trevor Williams are definitely in play.

GPP- LeMahieu’s teammate, Gleyber Torres makes for a good GPP play when paying up. Mike Moustakas could be a nice lower owned options as many will see the lefty-lefty matchup and walk away. But that may not be the case as Moose is hitting LHP fine. This season Moose has a .274 average with a .383 wOBA and a 35% HH rate. Ozzie Albies, David Bote and Lourdes Gurriel Jr all have GPP appeal in the lower $4K range. When punting Rougned Odor and Kiké Hernandez are both GPP punts.

Third Base

Cash- Manny Machado is a solid play in cash, but a nice pivot would be Rafael Devers vs Fulmer. Machado has been red hot and will be back in Baltimore, so queue up narrative street. At the same time, Devers has been white hot and faces Fulmer. Scott Kingery put another double-digit DK night up last night and is raking. He’ll be another of the Phillies to load up tonight vs Lockett. A really solid value for cash is Jose Ramirez, who’s swinging well. Last night, he put up another multi-hit game and has now hit safely in 10 of his last 11 games.

GPP- Kris Bryant is definitely in play tonight. The wind blowing out in Wrigley and facing the lefty Fried. RHH are hitting .285 with a .334 wOBA and a 35% vs Fried this season. Nolan Arenado has some career success vs Mad Bum and will look to add onto that tonight. Eugenio Suarez faces Andrew Heaney tonight and so far this season, he has a .370 wOBA, .500 SLG and a 52% HH rate vs LHP.

Cash- Machado and Xander are cash game relevant, but my top high priced cash game play once again is Francisco Lindor. The Quant Edge projections have Lindor as one of the top projected plays as well and should take advantage of a great matchup vs Sparkman. J.P. Crawford has returned from the IL and is rolling. He’s hit safely in five of his last six games, hitting .417 over that time. He’ll be facing Zack Davies tonight who has been an absolute mess of late. Jean Segura and Didi Gregorious are also cash relevant if looking to save tonight.

GPP- Fernando Tatis Jr is pricey tonight but is still extremely GPP relevant with a great matchup vs the Orioles. If you want a major upside play, that’s pricey and may be slightly overlooked on a 15-game slate….Javy Baez vs Fried. Dansby Swanson continues to impress and can be super contrarian vs Alzolay tonight.

Cash- The Padres are a great look tonight and that means Hunter Renfroe, Franmil Reyes, Wil Myers and possibly the sneaky Josh Naylor are all in play tonight. With all the Phillies love vs Lockett, that means Bryce Harper and Scott Kingery are very much in play tonight. Mookie Betts went deep last night and is back in play tonight, along with his teammates JD Martinez, JBJ and Benintendi. The Cubs face off with Fried, making Kyle Schwarber interesting but also remember the value with the likes of Albert Almora Jr. The Mets went off last night, so Jeff McNeil and Michael Conforto are quite intriguing again tonight. Mallex Smith has been rolling as well as his teammate Domingo Santana vs Davies. The Reds could be sneaky nice vs Heaney tonight and I really like Nick Senzel and the red hot Yasiel Puig.

GPP- Alzolay was great his first time out, but don’t sleep on Ronald Acuna and Nick Markakis tonight. Some of the Rockies have had some good success vs Mad Bum and that includes Charlie Blackmon. If the game were in Texas, this would be more of a cash game play, but Danny Santana, Shin-Soo Choo and Nomar Mazara are GPP plays. There’s a good chance George Springer is back tonight, so he’s in play with Michael Brantley, Josh Reddick and JORDAN ALVAREZ.

So so many options in the outfield. Check out today’s episode of MLB DFS Quick Hits for all of them.

Top Stacks- CLE, SD, PHI, CHC, CIN, BOS, SF
