MLB DFS Batter Breakdown – Astros Offense Wakes up Tonight – The Quant Edge

Welcome to another Saturday of all day MLB DFS action. We have a 6 game early and a 7 game main slate to breakdown and cash tonight. There’s some weather to navigate tonight so be careful. Lots of aces as well. We do have the Braves and Pirates smashing early and the Astros offense wakes up tonight. Let’s see who we are targeting on today’s MLB DFS Batter Breakdown.

Catcher

Early- Christian Vazquez continues to mash and is another solid spot today vs Zimmermann and the Tigers bullpen. If saving some cash you can target Jorge Alfaro who is hitting .302 this season with a .363 wOBA and a 51% HH rate vs LHP. This season RHH are hitting .284 with a .332 wOBA vs Fried this season. Alfaro could be sneaky today. With day games after night games, keep an eye on lineups as a lot of value may pop up at the C position today.

Late- You start up top with the expensive option of James McCann vs Jon Lester. But that might not be the ideal way to build your lineups today. Save a few dollars and drop below $4K to Omar Narvaez or Robinson Chirinos who’s hitting lefties very well this season. Other than those main ones it’s rough for catchers tonight. Check lineups for some value.

First Base

Early- LHH are hitting .316 with a .389 wOBA vs Adrian Houser this season, queue up captain obvious Josh Bell. A good high priced pivot off Bell would be Carlos Santana who faces Anthony Desclafani who is giving up a .315 average and a .399 wOBA to LHH this season. Not to mention it’s in Great American Small Park. Matt Adams and Michael Chavis are intriguing options if stacking. Similar to Alfaro above, Garrett Cooper makes for an interesting GPP play. Yandy Diaz has been mashing LHP and becomes an option vs CC. Lastly if you want to go YOLO you can target Jake Bauers vs Desclafani.

Late- You can roll with Matt Olson in a GPP vs Marco Gonzalez up top, but that’s not my top choice. By now you should know when I see Jose Abreu vs a lefty it gets circled. He’s facing Jon Lester tonight and I am all about that life. Chris Bassitt hasn’t been the same of late and Dan Vogelbach may take advantage of that tonight. Brandon Belt isn’t a sexy play by any means, but on a slate full of aces he’s in play vs Mikolas who has struggled a ton this year, especially to LHH. Paul Goldschmidt went deep last night and faces a familiar foe tonight in Mad Bum, does he make it back to back nights? There’s a good chance he does.

Second Base

Early- Lefties are hitting .304 with a .340 wOBA vs Trevor Williams this season, leading to a very nice spot vs Mike Moustakas today. Coming into Friday night’s action Adam Frazier was hitting .667 with 6 extra base hits in the month of July. Ride that hot streak vs Houser today at a reasonable price. There are a handful of intriguing options below $4K. You have Keston Hiura vs Williams, Brock Holt vs Jordan Zimmermann, Brian Dozier vs Sparkman and then the one I may like the most in Jason Kipnis vs Desclafani.

Late- Jeff McNeil remains pricey, but facing a pitch to contact Jake Arrieta is a good way to keep the cash games rolling, and add some GPP upside. Jose Altuve has always hit lefties well and is still super affordable tonight vs Andrew Heaney. Chad Pinder and Donavan Solano are 2 cheaper options to keep in mind tonight.

Third Base

Early- Well it’s a shame we can only start one but Rafael Devers and Anthony Rendon are both in smash spots today. Best in stacks but if one off I am gonna keep rolling with Devers. Jose Ramirez is up to $4400 but still a good spot vs Desclafani Over the last 10 games JRam is hitting .333 with a .425 wOBA and 5 extra base hits. He’s starting to show signs of life and is definitely in play today. A cheaper options would be our boy Colin Moran vs Houser. Since Jeimer Candelario was recalled from AAA he’s been hitting. He has hits in 7 of the 8 games with a .357 average, .457 wOBA and 4 extra base hits. He could be a nice punt vs Porcello who is giving up a .336 wOBA and a 36% HH rate to LHH this season.

Late- Nolan Arenado vs Robbie Ray does seem quite appealing, but there are some other options up top I’ll be targeting. Alex Bregman in all formats vs Heaney and Yoan Moncada in GPPs and White Sox stacks vs Lester. 2 nice mid $4K targets are Matt Chapman and Yuli Gurrriel. Both may go over looked tonight. Pablo Sandoval and Todd Frazier make for some really sneaky GPP plays vs Arrieta.

Shortstop

Early- Trea Turner and Xander Bogaerts are in great spots, but give me Francisco Lindor in great American Small Park vs Desclafani. This season Lindor is hitting .319 with a .366 wOBA and a 45% HH rate vs RHP, that should work nicely today. Miguel Rojas has been streaking of late and makes for some potential value at SS. If going full punt then give Willy Adames a look.

Late- Trevor Story vs a lefty in Robbie Ray is always intriguing, but I am liking Bregman more up top tonight. J.P. Crawford and Marcus Semien in the mid $4K range look very nice if you want to save a few bucks. If you are looking to save take a look at Paul DeJong and Donavan Solano.

Outfield

Early- Juan Soto is in a smash spot once again today vs Sparkman. You have Christian Yelich and the Brew Crew vs Williams, maybe some value with Gamel. On the Pirates side, there’s a lot to like with Starling Marte, Bryan Reynolds and CDick. The Red Sox vs Zimmermann is a great spot for Betts, JBJ, JD and Benintendi. The Marlins and Braves both have options but are really contrarian vs Smith and Fried. The Indians have some nice value with Naquin and Bauers.

Late- The White Sox vs Lester isn’t a lock down smash button spot, but for GPPs it’s in play and that starts with Eloy Jimenez and possibly some other values based on the lineup they throw out. The Astros vs Heaney is on the radar, Brantley and Springer are very nice but don’t sleep on Jake Marisnick vs a LHP. Michael Conforto vs Jake Arrieta apart of a stack or a one off is in play. Laureano and KRUSH are solid looks vs Gonzalez. On the flip side of that game, don’t forget Mallex Smith. Lastly, Alex Dickerson went deep again last night and is a sneaky good play vs Mikolas tonight.

Stacks

Early- WAS, PIT, MIL, BOS, CLE…..sneakier MIA, ATL, DET, TB. The Yankees are definitely GPP relevant today, didn’t write much about them vs Snell but with their power they are very very risky GPP plays.

Late- HOU, OAK, SEA, NYM, SF, AZ
