Well, I hope everyone had a great weekend and is ready to get back to the daily grind of MLB DFS. We have a nice nine-game slate on tap tonight, but be sure to keep an eye on the TQE Weather Tool as there are three games with some potential rain issues. When looking at the TQE Line Movement tool, there are 6 IRT already over five for the night with a few other really nice spots to target. One of which is the Pirates continuing Gausman’s struggles. Let’s see what bats we are targeting for tonight’s action in tonight’s Batter Breakdown.
There are a couple of ways to approach catcher tonight and that’s pay up or save your money. If paying up you have Gary Sanchez vs Jason Vargas or even Wilson Contreras vs German Marquez. Gary will be the more popular pay up spot as he has a .486 SLG, 30% HR/FB and 45% HH rate vs LHP this season. Some cheaper options would be Tony Wolters vs Darvish in Coors, Brian McCann vs Musgrove of one of the Rays values vs Anderson.
Cash- When talking cash, it’s a pay up spot for Freddie Freeman vs Musgrove. Freeman has hit safely in eight of his last nine games. Over that time, he’s hitting .333 with 4 home runs and a .481 wOBA. This season, lefties are getting to Musgrove with a .343 wOBA, .496 SLG and a 37% HH rate. If going cheaper, you can target Jose Abreu at only $4200. He has really solid history vs Anibal going 13 for 26 with 2 home runs and a .546 wOBA. Lastly, you have Ryan McMahon at only $4200 in Coors. McMahon hasn’t been the most consistent bat, but price alone in Coors puts him in play, also available at 2B.
GPP- It all starts with Anthony Rizzo when paying up in a GPP. It’s a GPP since he’s facing German Marquez, but it’s in Coors. Rizzo is hitting .291 this season vs RHP with a .409 wOBA, a .982 OPS and a 47% HH rate. The best part about the Cubs is possibly getting to Marquez and eventually getting to the Rockies pen, who isn’t horrific but not great either. Matt Adams is a very intriguing cheaper option. He’s been hitting very well when getting starts and tonight gets to face Odrisamer Despaigne. Despaigne is making his season debut and we know from seasons past that he gets hit around vs LHH. Last season, lefties hit .338 with .376 wOBA and a 41% HH rate. Adams will likely be completely overlooked tonight.
Other First Base Options- Josh Bell, Jay Bruce, Cody Bellinger, Daniel Murphy, Pete Alonso, Luke Voit, Rhys Hoskins
Cash- When paying up in cash, we start out with D.J. LeMahieu vs Vargas. LeMahieu has hit safely in 13 of his last 14 games, hitting .313 over that time with a 127 wRC+. He’s been hitting atop the Yankees order tonight and if they get to Vargas he should be right in the middle of the fun. A cheaper option as mentioned above is Ryan McMahon. If going really cheap, then look into Jeff McNeil or Cesar Hernandez, both likely leading off in some hitter-friendly matchups.
GPP- Brandon Lowe comes into tonight’s game on fire. In his last three games, he’s hitting .538 with a .669 wOBA and a 339wRC+. He crushed it over the weekend and gets a great matchup tonight vs the A’s spot starter Tanner Anderson. The other GPP target I like would be Ketel Marte vs Eickhoff.
Cash- Third Base is very pricey per usual tonight and your first cash game play is Nolan Arenado in Coors vs Darvish. But when looking to be more affordable, give Colin Moran vs Gausman tonight. We know RHH are hitting Gausman better than LHH, but lefties still get there’s. Plus Moran comes in hot. Moran has hit safely in nine of his last 10, hitting .300 with 5 home runs and a .435 wOBA. Even with those numbers, he’s been below 5% owned most days, enjoy the streak while you can. Matt Carpenter would be my cheapest cash option for now as he’s hit safely in seven of his last eight games. Hitting .308 over that time with 2 home runs and a .538 SLG.
GPP- Austin Riley and Eduardo Escobar are two GPP options above $5K. But getting cheaper, we are getting a deal tonight with Yoan Moncada, who is riding a 10-game hitting streak into tonight’s action with a .381 average over that stretch and a .450 wOBA. He’ll be facing Anibal Sanchez, who has given up a .278 average, .384 wOBA and 2.5 HR/9 to LHH this season. Some cheaper GPP targets could be Yandy Diaz or JD Davis.
Cash- There are a ton of high priced targets at SS, and they are discussed on Quick Hits, but there’s one main cash target for me tonight. His name is Corey Seager as he faces Griffin Canning tonight. Seager has a seven-game hitting streak, going on with a .448 average over that time and a .508 wOBA. Seager is also taking care of business vs RHP this season as he’s hitting .295 with a .380 wOBA and a .260 ISO. Canning has been OK vs LHH this season, but he is giving up 2 HR/9 and a 35% HH rate this season.
GPP- If not going up top at SS in a GPP, then give Didi Gregorious vs Vargas. Didi has already gone deep once in his first three games back and gets to enjoy that short porch in right tonight. He’s facing the lefty Vargas and that’s not necessarily a bad thing. Last season Didi hit .278 with a .330 wOBA and a .431 SLG vs LHP. This season, LHH have a .329 wOBA and a 38% HH rate vs Vargas.
Cash- You start in Coors with Charlie Blackmon and maybe the better play in David Dahl. When leaving Coors you head to Tampa Bay and have Austin Meadows, Tommy Pham and maybe even some Avisail Garcia or Kevin Kiermeier. Juan Soto is a very good cash game look and likely overlooked tonight. Going to the Braves Austin Riley is in play but more importantly a sub $5K Ronald Acuna Jr. Aaron Hicks and Brett Gardner hit the cash game action vs Vargas as well.
GPP– You have the Cubs and that means and awesome price on Kyle Schwarber and a really cheap price on Carlos Gonzalez as he returns to Coors. David Peralta and Ketel Marte make for GPP targets vs Eickhoff. I really like the Pirates tonight and that puts Starling Marte, Gregory Polanco and even Bryan Reynolds into play. Griffin Canning has been good but keep an eye on Cody Bellinger as well.
Top Stacks- ATL, PIT, TB, WAS, COL, CHC
Cash- COL, ATL, TB, WAS, NYY
GPP- PIT, CHC, PHI, AZ
