Batter Breakdown | Nationals taking it to the White Sox

Batter Breakdown | Nationals taking it to the White Sox

Well, we nailed the Pirates and Braves last night, but the weather scared many off of the other hammers in the DBacks and Phillies. Tonight, we have a massive 15-game slate on tap. When looking at the TQE Line Movement tool, we currently have six games with totals over 9 and five IRT over 5, such as the Nationals taking it to the White Sox. It’s a beautiful slate when Coors isn’t the only action in town. Let’s see who we are targeting for tonight’s 15-game slate in the Batter Breakdown.

If paying up at catcher tonight, you could go with Gary Sanchez as discussed yesterday, but the pay up spot may just be Mitch Garver, who has been crushing it this season, hitting .317, but is streaking over his last three, hitting .357 with a .471 wOBA. He faces Mike Leake tonight in a game that should see the Twins score a lot of runs. If paying down at catcher, take a look at Chance Sisco vs Trent Thornton and Chris Iannetta in Coors vs Quintana.

First Base

Cash- If paying up at 1B, there are a lot of cash options. You have Anthony Rizzo in Coors, the red hot Freddie Freeman vs Archer and the left masher Howie Kendrick vs Banuelos. But if looking to save you have some options. Ji-Man Choi has quietly put together a seven-game hitting streak as he enters tonight’s game. Over that span, he’s hitting .545 with a .603 wOBA and a 56% HH rate…..oh, and he faces Mike Fiers tonight.

GPP- One of the more contrarian plays I like, and for me, it’s contrarian with it being a righty-righty matchup as well as other options at 1B. That play is C.J. Cron, who has hit safely in nine of his last 10 games for a .300 average and 6 extra base hits. Cron faces Mike Leake tonight, who’s giving up a .276 average to RHH this season, including a .338 wOBA, 2.3 HR/9 and a 42% HH rate.

Second Base

Cash- You can pay up for Brandon Lowe once again today and he’s more of a cash play than GPP. But I prefer to save some cash and roll with the red hot Brian Dozier vs the lefty Banuelos. Dozier is hitting .393 over his last 10 games with 7 extra base hits (3 home runs) and a .533 wOBA. He’s crushing it lately and what’s even better is that he’s destroying LHP this season. On the season, he’s hitting .367 vs LHP with a .479 wOBA and a 41% HH rate. This season lefties are hitting .307 of Manny Banuelos with a .405 wOBA and 2.8 HR/9. Tony Kemp is a decent punt, cash play at 2B.

GPP- Derek Dietrich isn’t just a player, he crushes a lot. This season, he has a .417 wOBA, .680 SLG, a 33% HR/FB and a 41.5% HH rate vs RHP. He faces Trevor Bauer tonight, who has hit the struggle bus in a huge way this season. LHH have a .357 wOBA off Bauer this season with a 2 HR/9 and a 40% HH rate. It’s a boom-or-bust play, but no one will own a low owned Dietrich home run tonight. If looking cheaper in a GPP, then target Jonathan Schoop or Lourdes Gurriel Jr.

Third Base

Cash- Nolan Arenado at home vs a lefty is always a great cash play. As well as the likes of Howie Kendrick and Anthony Rendon vs Banuelos. The play I’ll pivot too, if not playing those three, is Marwin Gonzalez vs Leake. Marwin is hitting .355 over his last eight games with a .450 wOBA and 6 extra base hits. He’s on fire and more importantly way too cheap, making him a near must play tonight.

GPP- If going contrarian, check out Eduardo Escobar vs Arrieta. Escobar is hitting .299 this season but has been scorching over the last four games where he’s hitting .529 with a .674 wOBA. He double donged last night and gets Jake Arrieta tonight. This season, LHH are hitting .301 vs Arrieta with a .394 wOBA, 2.7 HR/9 and a 44% HH rate. A few cheaper looks would be Colin Moran and Vladimir Guerrero Jr.

Cash- You have Trevor Story at home vs a lefty, but the plays in cash tonight are Trea Turner or Jorge Polanco when paying up. This season Polanco is hitting .337 with a .426 wOBA and a 41% HH rate. If going cheaper at SS, take a look at Corey Seager and a way too cheap Manny Machado vs Beede.

GPP- Fernando Tatis Jr is an intriguing GPP play tonight, but you can go cheaper. I broke down Didi Gregorius yesterday vs Jason Vargas and that obviously stays true tonight. If you want to just punt, then target Tim Beckham vs an LHP. Martin Perez has struggled the last few starts and Beckham is hitting .279 vs LHP with a .349 wOBA on the season.

Cash- Going back to the Twins with Eddie Rosario, Max Kepler, Nelson Cruz, Marwin Gonzalez and even Byron Buxton vs Leake. You have the Rays in a great spot vs Fiers so look at Austin Meadows and the streaking Kevin Kiermeier and the RHH in Tommy Pham and Avisail Garcia as RHH are hitting very well with Fiers this season. The Coors factors are definitely in play so Charlie Blackmon, David Dahl, Kris Bryant and Kyle Schwarber are all in play tonight. Get your Nats on with Juan Soto, who hits lefties extremely well, and even a sprinkle of Adam Eaton or Victor Robles. The Red Sox face Jurado and will look to smash with J.D. Martinez, cheaper than usual Mookie Betts and a super cheap Jackie Bradley JR. The Pirates are in a great spot tonight making Starling Marte a great cash play tonight and in that same game target Ronald Acuna Jr. There are many many other options, so listen into Quick Hits to get the full scoop.

GPP- The Phillies and DBacks are both in good spots tonight and have some options. For the Phillies, target Scott Kingery and Bryce Harper and for the DBacks target Ketel Marte and David Peralta. If you think Means struggles tonight, then Lourdes Gurriel Jr, Randall Grichuk and Teoscar Hernandez are intriguing GPP plays. Domingo Santana has been streaking a bit and hitting LHP well of late and gets Martin Perez tonight. The Dodgers face Pena tonight who has been good but blown up of late and that makes Cody Bellinger and Joc Pederson in play. Lastly, take a look at the Padres vs Beede and possible Hunter Renfroe and Franmil Reyes.
