Welcome back to another edition of the Batter Breakdown. We have a massive 15-game slate on tap tonight. There are some very good pitchers up top with eight of the 30 arms over $9K. But at the same time, there are some absolute gas cans to take a look at, including Edwin Jackson in COORS. You will hear that the Astros are horribly mispriced, it’s true, but we’ll see how chalky they are later in the day. Oh, and we get the J.D. Martinez and the Red Sox are happening tonight. For now, let’s see who we like in tonight’s Batter Breakdown.
So many ways to go on a 15-game slate, but up top, we start with the red hot Yasmani Grandal. Over his last 12 games, he’s hitting .294 with 4 home runs, including 2 home runs over his last three games. This season, Archer is giving up 2 HR/9 and a 41% HH rate to LHH. We broke him down yesterday and he’s cheaper tonight, but Christian Vazquez is definitely in play tonight vs JA Happ. This season Happ is giving up 2.6 HR/9 vs RHH with a 41% HH rate. Elias Diaz makes for a good cash game play vs Chacin as Diaz has scored 6 or more points in four straight games.
Cash- Cody Bellinger is expensive, but he’ll be facing a heavy contact pitcher in Jake Arrieta. LHH are hitting .286 with a .491 SLG, 2 HR/9 and a 43% HH rate. Josh Bell is also a great look tonight vs Chacin if looking to spend up at 1B. When looking for some cash game savings you have Brandon Belt at hitter friendly Camden Yards vs Andrew Cashner. We know Belt gets robbed at home, but on the road, he’s hitting .274 with a .355 ISO and a 21% HR/FB vs RHP on the road. Lastly, Steve Pearce at $2900 vs Happ…..yeah that’s some serious value.
GPP- Hey, look at that, the Orioles are facing a LHP. That means it’s time to get our man Renato Nunez in the lineup. He’s mashing LHP and faces Drew Pomeranz, who is giving up a .317 BA and 2.5 HR/9 vs RHH this season. Matt Olson has come into tonight’s action hitting safely in eight of his last nine games. Over those nine games, he’s hitting .286 with 4 home runs and a .686 SLG. He’ll be facing Brad Peacock who is giving up a .441 SLG and a 42% HH rate vs LHH. If looking for a GPP punt, you have Niko Goodrum vs Folty.
Cash- You can save some cash and just play Michael Chavis at $4400 vs Happ. It’s a smash spot as Chavis has been hitting LHP with some solid power and we’ve already documented Happ’s struggles vs RHH. Tommy La Stella is in a good spot vs home run prone Mike Leake and should have a solid floor tonight. If looking for a cash game value, then target Nicky Lopez vs Jurado.
GPP- Brendan Rodgers has been good but hasn’t shown the power yet this season, but that could change tonight. Getting a $4500 piece of COORS vs Edwin Jackson is oh so nice, and tonight could be the night where Rodgers finds the cheap seats. Mike Moustakas is coming off a monster night last night and is back vs Archer, who we already documented is struggling with preventing power vs LHH.
Cash- 3B is loaded tonight and it starts with a super expensive Nolan Arenado at home vs Edwin. But after that, you can drop down to La Stella and Chavis in cash games. Hanser Alberto is back to face a LHP tonight and he’s sub $4K, making him a really solid cash game play.
GPP- When going GPP you start with Alex Bregman and his way to cheap price vs Fiers. Yes, Bregman hasn’t been the consistent Bregman we are used to. And sure Fiers is pitching in O. Co, but this is too cheap. Moustakas once again fits the bill at 3B for GPPs as well. A couple of cheap GPP, boom-or-bust targets are Vladimir Guerrero Jr in Coors and Manny Machado vs Caleb Smith.
Cash- The top priced options on DK are loaded. Trevor Story in Coors vs Jackson is an absolute smash spot. You can go Francisco Lindor vs Dylan Covey as well. You get cheaper and we have our normal love affair with the Red Sox vs Happ with Xander Bogaerts. Lastly, when looking at value it’s really hard to pass up Corey Seager vs Arrieta. Seager is riding a six-game hitting streak where he’s hitting .375 with 2 home runs and a .497 wOBA. Really solid cash game upside.
GPP- For your GPP action you can target Brendan Rodgers vs Edwin. Or you can just save some cash and go with Tim Beckham who mashes LHP. He’s coming off a home run last night and gets Tyler Skaggs tonight. Skaggs is giving up a .435 SLG and a 43% HH rate.
Cash- Christian Yelich, Cody Bellinger and Mike Trout are outstanding high priced OF options. Alex Gordon will be a nice low owned play tonight vs Jurado. JD Martinez, Mookie Betts and Steve Pearce are all solid cash games vs Happ. We have Edwin in Coors and you get a cheap David Dahl and Raimel Tapia. Bryan Reynolds and Gregory Polanco are cheaper cash options vs Chacin. If you want the cheap-priced plays then Michael Brantley, Derek Fisher and Josh Reddick vs Fiers fits the mold.
GPP- Juan Soto has been red hot of late, may be considered a cash play, but he works in GPP as he’ll go very low owned vs Mahle in Great American Small Park tonight. Our boy Joc Jams is once again in a great spot for your GPP lineups tonight vs Arrieta. Ronald Acuna is coming off a downer on Wednesday and is in a nice GPP bounce back vs Turnbull tonight. Mitch Haniger and Domingo Santana are in play vs Skaggs tonight.
Top Stacks- COL, BOS, BAL, WAS, HOU
Cash- COL, LAA, BAL, BOS, HOU
