Batter Breakdown | It’s all about the Phillies tonight

Well, I hope everyone had a great weekend and wasn’t looking forward to a monster Monday slate…..because we have a three-gamer to talk about. Obviously, the selections are limited, but here’s a hint – “it’s all about the Phillies tonight”, and there will be a couple of teams to just load up on. Instead of going cash and GPP, as slates like this should be GPP only, I’ll do a general position breakdown with a high priced and cheap option. Without further ado, here’s tonight’s Batter Breakdown.

We have Omar Narvaez at $4K tonight facing Corbin Martin. The Mariners offense is struggling some, but they’ll be facing Martin, who has struggled as well. Martin has given up at least 2 runs in each start. He’s only gone 3.1-4 innings in each of his last three starts. And he’s also given up at least 1 home run in each start, including 3 in his last start. This season, Narvaez is hitting .278 with a .340 wOBA and a 34% HH rate. A cheaper option would be a Will Smith punt vs Robbie Ray.

First Base

Rhys Hoskins is definitely a popular, high priced option vs Eric Lauer tonight as he’s been mashing LHP this season. A bit cheaper though at $4K is David Freese. Freese doesn’t play every day, but he usually plays vs LHP and over his last eight games played, he’s hit safely. Over those eight games, he’s hitting .524 with a .653 wOBA and 3 home runs. It’s dicey facing Ray tonight, but it does have some serious GPP appeal. A cheaper option will be Yuli Gurriel vs LeBlanc.

Second Base

Second base is pretty rough tonight. You can pay up and look for the home run with Ketel Marte vs Walker Buehler. You can save some cash and take the platoon advantages with Kike Hernandez or Chris Taylor vs Ray. Or you can go full on punt with Tony Kemp, who has struggled vs LHP but has done well vs RHP. Moreover, the Mariners pitching staff as a whole is not good at all.

Third Base

Alex Bregman comes into tonight’s action hitting safely in seven of his last eight games and faces LeBlanc tonight. Over those eight games, Bregman is hitting .313 with a .408 wOBA. This season Bregman has a .348 wOBA and a 49% HH rate vs LHP this season. Bregman is a smash play on this short slate. Scott Kingery is a nice cheaper option vs Eric Lauer as Kingery is hitting .303 over his last nine games with five multi-hit games and 4 extra base hits. Manny Machado and Kyle Seager make for nice, cheaper punts tonight.

If paying up at SS tonight, it’s all about Jean Segura, who is mashing LHP this season with a .349 average, a .456 wOBA and a 1.112 OPS. He gets Eric Lauer tonight. Sean Rodriguez and Manny Machado would be the punts tonight.

When looking at the outfield, you have the hot bat of Andrew McCutchen and his teammate Bryce Harper vs Lauer. In a GPP, feel free to get weird with Hunter Renfroe and Franmil Reyes vs Nola. Michael Brantley, Jake Marisnick and Derek Fisher make for solid looks vs LeBlanc and that Mariners staff. A couple of young bucks in the Padres’ Josh Naylor and the Astros’ Myles Straw make for some contrarian GPP targets.

The Astros vs LeBlanc and company are going to be popular and are in a great spot. After the Astros, it’s all about the Phillies vs birthday boy Eric Lauer. If you want to get a little weird and contrarian, then target the Mariners vs Corbin Martin, the DBacks vs Walker Buehler or the Dodgers vs Ray. One of the big three will get hit tonight and finding that one could be huge, but the Mariners are in the best “spot” of the four contrarian plays.
