Batter Breakdown | Don’t sleep on Francisco Lindor and the Indians

So the Nationals go bananas, the White Sox pop off, if you chanced the rain, then the Phillies popped off. Just another wild night around the MLB. Tonight we have a seven-game slate on tap, including a streaking Francisco Lindor and Cleveland Indians team. There are a handful of really good arms that you can try and be contrarian against or just feast on the scrubs that are throwing. Let’s see who we like in tonight’s Batter Breakdown.

Catcher

Christian Vazquez has been a pleasant offensive surprise for the Red Sox this season. In the month of May alone, Vazquez is hitting .357 with a .392 wOBA and 3 home runs. Vazquez has also really thrived vs LHP. This season vs lefties, he’s hitting .366 with a 1.096 OPS and a .442 wOBA. He’s raking this season and gets the Yankees lefty, J.A. Happ, tonight. This season, RHH are slugging .553 with a .360 wOBA and a 41% HH rate. If looking for some savings, take a look at Elias Diaz or Will Smith.

First Base

Cash- When paying up at first base it doesn’t take long to find a cash play with Josh Bell. Bell comes into tonight’s game riding an eight-game hitting streak where he’s hitting .406. Over that span, he has a .529 wOBA, 8 extra-base hits, a 50% HR/FB rate and a 44% HH rate. He faces Chase Anderson and his reverse splits tonight, but for cash games, I’ll take my chances with Bell. If looking to save some cash, then take a look at Edwin Encarnacion and a super cheap lefty masher in Steve Pearce.

GPP- There are some fun ways to go at GPP tonight and the first will be Ronald Guzman vs Jakob Junis. Guzman has homered in two of his last three games and has shown some pop vs RHP this season. He’s slugging .542 with a .835 OPS and a 42.5% HH rate. He always has the ability to go deep and it doesn’t hurt facing Junis. This season, LHH are hitting .292 vs Junis with a .361 wOBA and a 1.6 HR/9. A couple of other GPP targets would be Pete Alonso, Jose Abreu, Albert Pujols and Luke Voit.

Second Base

Cash- Most of the higher priced 2B options are GPP plays, so for cash, we will look to save some cash. Adam Frazier for the Pirates vs Chase Anderson at $3800 is very cash worthy. Frazier has been hitting toward the top of the Buccos lineup of late and he’s swinging a hot stick. He’s hit safely in five of his last six games for a .296 average. He’s has three multi-hit games over that stretch and will look to keep it going tonight vs Chase Anderson. Another cash game option would be Kike Hernandez vs Jason Vargas.

GPP- You can start things up top with the power bat of Michael Chavis vs J.A. Happ. Chavis will look to add onto his awesome power start to the season. But if you are looking to save some money, then a $3900 Rougned Odor is very solid for your GPP lineups tonight vs Jakob Junis.

Third Base

Cash- A couple 3B cash game targets tonight would be Justin Turner and his ability to hit LHP with authority. He faces Jason Vargas, who has allowed RHH to slug .486 while giving up 1.6 HR/9 and a 48% HH rate. If looking to go a little cheaper, you can target Asdrubal Cabrera vs Junis. Cabrera has hit safely in five of his last seven games. This season Cabrera is slugging .483 with a .329 wOBA vs RHP. Some may say he’s more GPP than cash, but his price alone makes him cash viable tonight.

GPP- Michael Chavis definitely fits the bill here as well. You could go with Mike Moustakas vs Joe Musgrove. The option I’ll be looking at in GPPs would be Yoan Moncada, who is the epitome of boom or bust. Moncada has hit safely in seven of his last eight games with 2 extra base hits, a steal and 5 RBIs. Moncada has done well vs RHP this season, hitting .282 with a .583 SLG and a 41% HH rate. Carrasco is no easy task, but he has given up a .357 wOBA, 2.5 HR/9 and a 43% HH rate to LHP this season.

Shortstop

Cash- For cash, you can pay up for Elvis Andrus or Xander Bogaerts, no problem with that at all. Or you could save a few bucks and enjoy Francisco Lindor vs Manny Banuelos and the White Sox bullpen. Lindor is riding a four-game hitting streak into tonight’s action and hits LHP extremely well over his career. This season, RHH are hitting .323 with a .420 wOBA, 2.9 HR/9 and a 39% HH rate. A cheaper option would be Corey Seager vs Vargas and that washed Mets pen.

GPP- When looking at GPP you can take the gamble with Jorge Polanco vs Charlie Morton. Or just go straight to savings with Amed Rosario, who is hitting well of late. Hitting .500 over his last three games with 4 extra base hits and a .650 wOBA. On the season, he has a .310 ISO and a .372 wOBA vs LHP. It’s risky vs Ryu, but the GPP upside is very nice.

Outfield

Cash- If the Red Sox don’t get rained out, then Mookie Betts, JD Martinez and a cheap Steve Pearce are definitely in play. Christian Yelich and Mike Trout are always in play in their nice matchups. The Rangers are very cash viable tonight so look at Joey Gallo, Choo and Mazara. The Indians have two of my favorite cash plays because of matchups and price at $4100 with Oscar Mercado and Jordan Luplow. The Pirates duo of Bryan Reynolds and Gregory Polanco will go overlooked. Lastly, Cody Bellinger, Kike Hernandez and Chris Taylor can be cash viable tonight.

GPP- When looking at GPP, there are many ways to go. Clint Frazier and Aaron Hicks vs Chris Sale has appeal. Martin Perez has been good this season, but Tommy Pham, Austin Meadows and Avisail Garcia have GPP upside. In that same game, you can look at Max Kepler and Eddie Rosario vs Morton. If you choose to attack Minor, then Jorge Soler has some GPP upside. A few other targets would be Charlie Tilson and Mitch Haniger.
