Batter Breakdown | Brewers getting right vs a Rookie

Batter Breakdown | Brewers getting right vs a Rookie

After yesterday’s split slate we are back with a massive 14 game Friday slate. There appears to be no rain concerns and we have some wind that may help the bats, but make sure to check out the Weather Tool as we approach lock. There are a couple of really nice places to target tonight, but for me, it’s the Brewers getting right vs a Rookie. Let’s see who else we like for tonight’s action in the daily Batter Breakdown.

There will be a trend tonight and that trend will be the Brewers getting right vs Rookie Davis. That starts with Yasmani Grandal. Sure he’s pricey for a catcher, but he’s earned that price tag. Grandal has been feeling it of late. Over the past 19 games, he’s hitting .317 with 7 home runs and a .464 wOBA. If you want a smaller sample size, let’s take the last seven games, where he’s hitting .370 with 6 extra base hits (3 home runs) and a .502 wOBA. He’s raking, hitting cleanup and should be in for a huge game tonight. Other catching options would be Robinson Chirinos who’s absolutely crushing it of late, Brian McCann vs Urena and Jonathan Lucroy vs Gonzales.

First Base

Cash- Howie Kendrick is priced so high, but he’s raking and faces a very hittable LHP tonight. Kendrick has always hit LHP well, but this season is nuts. This season he’s hitting .388 with a .427 wOBA, 1.020 ISO and a 41.5% HH rate. Freddie Freeman is also another solid cash option vs Urena. Over the last six games, Freeman is hitting .292 with 3 home runs. A cheaper option in cash would be David Freese vs Pomeranz. Freese crushes LHP and has been hitting at the top of the order of late vs LHP. Over his last 11 games, Freese is hitting .467 with 8 extra base hits (3 home runs) and a .589 wOBA…..and that’s vs RHP and LHP.

GPP- Feel free to ride the streak and pay up a bit for Jay Bruce, who is making his debut in Philadelphia, vs Tyler Mahle. This season LHH are hitting .299 with a .373 wOBA and a 44% HH rate. Because Rookie Davis is bad, Eric Thames becomes a very intriguing GPP play. Edwin Encarnacion is hitting .270 over his last nine games with 4 home runs and a .402 wOBA and tonight, he gets the lefty Marco Gonzales. Matt Boyd hasn’t been as dominant of late and the lefty masher CJ Cron will try and improve on those awesome stats vs LHP.

Second Base

Cash- Back to the Brew Crew and back to Mike Moustakas having a huge night tonight. Kike Hernandez is hitting .286 vs LHP this season with a .370 wOBA and an insane 51% HH rate….he gets Drew Pomeranz tonight. A nice value tonight, and hopefully leading off, is Cesar Hernandez vs Mahle.

GPP- Derek Dietrich is darn pricey but is very GPP relevant tonight. He faces Zach Eflin who LHH have a .334 wOBA and 2.2 HR/9. If looking to save some cash, then drop down to Jonathan Schoop vs Boyd. Schoop has struggled a bit of late, but in his career has hit LHP well and this season has a 50% HH rate vs lefties. Don’t look now, but Brian Dozier may be heating up. Over his last three games started, he has 3 multi-hit games. In those three games, he’s hitting .500 with 2 home runs. We’ve always known Dozier hits lefties well and will look forward to picking on Margevicius tonight.

Third Base

Cash- You can use Howie Kendrick or Mike Moustakas here in cash, or go to Kendrick’s teammate in Anthony Rendon. If you want a pivot off the top options, there is Alex Bregman, who is once again heating up after a slow set of games after his injury. Bregman has hit safely in 11 of his last 12 games, hitting .354 with a .435 wOBA and 7 extra base hits. I respect Yonny Chirinos, but the streak Rafael Devers can’t be ignored and is a play every day…I can only write and talk about him so much. A cheaper 3B option will be Justin Turner vs Pomeranz or once again a cheap Manny Machado.

GPP- Yoan Moncada has reached the $5K price tag and it still shouldn’t scare you off in GPPs as he faces Homer Bailey tonight. Moncada is riding a seven-game hitting streak into tonight’s action with 3 home runs and a .445 wOBA over that stretch. A couple of cheaper options would be Scott Kingery vs Mahle, Colin Moran who has put up 14 or more DK points in six of his last seven games and Vladimir Guerrero Jr vs Kelly.

Cash- Francisco Lindor has been the lone consistent bright spot for the Indians this year and is worth the price in cash once again. Over his last six games, he’s hitting .435 with 4 home runs and an insane .607 wOBA. He’s locked in and will look to keep it going vs a struggling Domingo German. Elvis Andrus at $4700 is a solid option hitting in the middle of the Rangers lineup vs Anderson. If leading off tonight, Amed Rosario vs Senzatela is a solid look as Rosario is coming off back to back games with homers. Also, don’t forget Manny Machado.

GPP- Trea Turner and Adalberto Mondesi make for two pricier SS GPP options. When dropping down in price, take a look at the switch-hitting Jorge Polanco vs Boyd. This season, Polanco is hitting .332 vs LHP with a .336 wOBA and a 40% HH rate. The full YOLO punt would be Tim Beckham vs the lefty Heaney.

Cash- He may be $6K, but Christian Yelich is in an absolute smash spot tonight. His teammates Lo Cain and Ryan Braun make for some cheaper Brew Crew Options. Mike Trout just continues to hit home runs and now gets Gonzales tonight, PLAY HIM!!!!. Trout’s teammate Cesar Puello is in play as well. Jay Bruce, Scott Kingery and the heating up and too cheap Bryce Harper are in play tonight. Don’t sleep on Alex Gordon tonight vs Nova. Ronald Acuna is in play for me almost every night and is worth a look tonight vs Urena. The Astros are a bit too cheap for their matchup tonight so target Michael Brantley, Josh Reddick and the cheap Derek Fisher. If Dom Smith cracks the Mets lineup, he’s worth a look, but his teammate Michael Conforto is definitely in play.

GPP- Ricky Porcello is always hit or miss. If you want to take that GPP risk, then Austin Meadows, Tommy Pham and even the streaking Avisail Garcia are in play. The Pirates just beat up Woodruff his last time out so target Gregory Polanco, Starling Marte and Bryan Reynolds. The Padres power duo of Hunter Renfroe and Franmil Reyes are both sneaky GPP plays. Don’t sleep on Eddie Rosario and Max Kepler, who are solid vs LHP and definitely don’t forget the insane value of NELSON CRUZ.
