Batter Breakdown | Austin Meadows and the Rays are great targets

Batter Breakdown | Austin Meadows and the Rays are great targets

After a minuscule three-game slate last night, baseball has graced us with a massive 15-game slate tonight. When looking at the TQE line movement tool, we have 9 IRT over 5 with the Red Sox (5.8) and Rangers (6) leading the way at this time (6 am PST). Those totals are great, but one of my favorite, hopefully lower owned looks will be the Rays whos IRT has already gone from 4.9 at the open to 5.4, proving Austin Meadows and the Rays are great targets tonight. There will be a ton of offense tonight and we will have it all for you right here. Let’s see who we like for tonight’s Batter Breakdown.

Catcher

With a 15 game slate, we actually have some nice options behind the dish. You can pay up for two great options of Gary Sanchez and Yasmani Grandal. But if you want to save some cash, we definitely have some options. Pedro Severino has been crushing LHP this season and is in a great spot vs Drew Smyly tonight. This season, Severino is hitting .351 vs LHP with a 1.053 OPS and a .432 wOBA. Great spot for Severino tonight. The other target in that price range, and he’s more of a GPP play, would be Mike Zunino vs home run friendly Ryan Carpenter.

Other Catching Options- Jorge Alfaro, Tyler Flowers

First Base

Cash- If paying up, then Cody Bellinger is in a great spot vs Taylor Clarke of the DBacks. But if looking to save a little, then ride the red hot bat of Renato Nunez, who has been raking of lately, hitting safely in 10 of his last 11 games with a .400 average and 7 HOME RUNS!!!! It gets better as he’s slugging .629 with a .403 wOBA and a 41% HH rate vs LHP this season. Drew Smyly should help with those numbers tonight. If looking for a cheaper 1B option, then look into Yandy Diaz or Matt Adams.

GPP- Drop down in price tonight and go GPP with Edwin Encarnacion. E5 has hit safely in five of his last six games with 3 home runs. He’s slugging .510 and a .363 wOBA vs LHP this season. He’ll be facing Wade Miley, who usually has some reverse splits where he pitches well vs RHH, but this season, they are having some success. RHH are hitting .250 with a .431 SLG with a 1.4 HR/9 and a 41% HH rate. Basically, when he does get hit by RHH, it’s hit hard and that plays well into a GPP Edwin.

Other First Base Options- Anthony Rizzo, Pete Alonso, Trey Mancini, Daniel Murphy, Matt Olson

Second Base

Cash- Mike Moustakas continued his solid season of late, hitting 3 home runs over his last four games. He has a good matchup at home tonight vs Pablo Lopez. Moose has done really well vs RHP this season with a .623 SLG, a .398 wOBA and a 49% HH rate. Lopez has let LHH hit him some this season, and much more on the road. On the road this season, lefties have a .290 average with a .351 wOBA and 1.9 HR/FB. Moose will look to stay hot at home tonight. If looking for a cheaper cash option, target Hanser Alberto vs Smyly.

GPP- When looking at GPPs, let’s target the awesome hitting environment in Coors with one of the highest IRT of the night with Javy Baez vs Hoffman. Baez has been very streaky at times this season, but through the first two months, he’s hit RHP very well at home. So far he’s hitting .323 with a .402 wOBA and a 41% HH rate vs righties at Wrigley. Not to mention that healthy wind blowing out to left tonight. Baez makes for a really good GPP play.

Other Second Base Options- Max Muncy, Michael Chavis, Jonathan Villar, D.J. LeMahieu

Third Base

Cash- Third base is absolutely loaded tonight and your choice at the hot corner will likely be apart of a stack. Rafael Devers will look to stay hot tonight vs Sparkman. If you go a little cheaper, then you have Justin Turner vs the DBacks youngster Taylor Clarke. Lastly, Eugenio Suarez vs a lefty – not to mention the lefty being Genesis Cabrera is a great spot tonight.

GPP- When jumping into the GPP pool, start with Austin Riley vs Brault. This season, RHH are hitting .306 vs Brault with a .403 wOBA 1.6 HR/FB and a 37% HH rate. Riley is hitting everything and has a great shot to go off once again tonight vs Brault. Michael Chavis is another nice higher priced GPP play. For cheaper options, take a look at Asdrubal Cabrera vs Bundy and Manny Machado, who is once again cheap and facing Eickhoff tonight.

Other Third Base Options- Anthony Rendon, Nolan Arenado, Kris Bryant, Hanser Alberto, D.J. LeMahieu, Yandy Diaz, Marwin Gonzalez

Shortstop

Cash- Corey Seager comes into tonight’s juicy matchup vs Taylor Clarke hitting safely in nine of his last 11 games. Over that stretch, he’s hitting .316 with 4 home runs and a .465 wOBA. Seager also has a .360 wOBA and a 43% HH rate vs RHP this season, making tonight vs Clarke an absolute smash spot tonight.

GPP- Shortstop is full of some really intriguing GPP options. If paying up, you can target Jorge Polanco vs Shane Bieber, who has scuffled of late, giving up a 42% HH rate vs LHP this season. Dansby Swanson continues to mash LHP, is usually batting second vs lefties and is priced $5K, which makes him a super low owned play tonight. A few cheaper options at SS are Amed Rosario, who has been doing well vs LHP and faces Mad Bum tonight. The cheap punt would be Willy Adames vs Ryan Carpenter tonight.

Other Shortstop Options- Xander Bogaerts, Trevor Story, Jonathan Villar, Javy Baez, Manny Machado, Tim Beckham, Jose Iglesias

Outfield

Cash- If paying up, and these will likely be apart of stacks, then Cody Bellinger, Christian Yelich, Austin Meadows and Juan Soto are definitely in play. When dropping down from the top, Meadow’s teammates Tommy Pham and Avisail Garcia, assuming they are playing, are some of the top plays in the OF tonight. Heading to the Rangers vs Bundy, definitely target Hunter Pence, Shin-Soo Choo and Nomar Mazara. The Red Sox are in a great spot vs Sparkman tonight so don’t forget Mookie Betts, JD Martinez, Andrew Benintendi or the value of JBJ. The combination of Austin Riley and Ronald Acuna vs Brault are solid looks. Some other options are Nick Senzel, Alex Verdugo and Adam Eaton.

GPP- Joc Jams leads the way up top in a GPP and has a great shot to go deep tonight vs Clarke. The Twins facing Bieber lines up to be a nice GPP angle, which makes Eddie Rosario and Max Kepler solid plays. Ther Brewers duo of Lorenzo Cain and Ryan Braun are intriguing GPP targets vs Lopez. Jordan Luplow vs a LHP is a smash GPP spot, and he gets one tonight with Smeltzer.
