Batter Breakdown 5/9

Batter Breakdown 5/9

We are back with your daily Batter Breakdown and have an odd looking five-game slate to discuss. There are some really solid arms up top and then a couple smash spots to attack with the bats. Let’s see where we need to go for your DraftKings lineups with tonight’s Batter Breakdown.

There’s two main ways I am looking to attack tonight. It’s either pay up for the red hot Gary Sanchez or punt. Over the last nine games, Gary is hitting .273 with 5 home runs, a .485 ISO and a 57% HH rate. He’s crushing it and Leake can feed it up to anyone. If not going Gary, then you can punt with the sub $3K Francisco Cervelli vs Michael Wacha. So far this season, RHH are hitting .361 vs Wacha so Cervelli, who’s hitting sixth in the Pirates order, makes a solid punt.

First Base

Cash- There are two cash options I’ll look to target tonight. First is Josh Bell and his red hot bat vs Wacha. Bell is riding an 8 game hitting streak where he’s hitting .364 with 3 home runs and a 62.5% HH rate. If not Bell and you want to save $700, you can go down to Ryon Healy vs J.A. Happ. This season Happ is giving up a .522 SLG vs RHH. He has a 5.17 xFIP and a 40% HH vs RHH as well. We know Healy has outstanding power vs LHP and for $3700 he makes for a nice cash game look.

GPP- There’s the pay up option at 1B tonight and his name is Luke Voit, who is inconsistent at times and that’s why he’s a GPP play. When he does go off though, it’s with authority. He’s barreling up the ball 18.9% of the time with a 39% HH rate. If you want to save some cash and go full YOLO, you can target the lefty masher David Freese vs Corbin or even go lower to Yuli Gurriel vs Minor.

Other First Base Options- Edwin Encarnacion, Freddie Freeman, Matt Carpenter

Second Base

Cash- He’s a little price, but he brings a good floor to the table for cash and his name is DJ LeMahieu. You may be sensing a trend here, but the Yankees have some nice plays today. Mike Leake doesn’t scare anyone, but DJ has been leading off and producing in a cash fashion. LeMahieu is riding a 10-game hitting streak, where he’s hitting .486 over that span with 2 steals. He’s a solid cash game play, apart of a Yankee stack, but for GPPs, he hasn’t shown the monster upside you are looking for tonight.

GPP- The Dodgers are facing lefty Patrick Corbin tonight and there needs to be a lot of respect for Corbin. This play is a full YOLO GPP play in Max Muncy. We are on Muncy yesterday and he went deep and we’ll roll again. He’s currently riding a six-game hitting streak with a .450 BA, .900 SLG, 3 home runs and a 62.5% HH rate. This season, Muncy is hitting .325 with a .725 SLG, a 31% HR/FB and a 54% HH rate vs LHP this season. Enjoy some low owned Muncy tonight. If Muncy doesn’t play, then Howie Kendrick vs Big Dick Mountain is a solid GPP look as well.

Other Second Base Options- Ketel Marte, Ozzie Albies, Chris Taylor

Third Base

Cash- You can go DJ LeMahieu or Ryon Healy here as we’ve mentioned them above. If you need another 3B option for cash, then target Anthony Rendon vs Hill. This season, LHH are hitting .355 vs Hill with a .774 SLG, a 36.4% HR/FB and a 42.3% HH rate. Rendon just returned from the IL and will look to get back on track vs Hill tonight.

GPP- We discussed Howie Kendrick and Yuli Gurriel above but here’s another target. Look into Matt Carpenter who has been scuffling of late, but has a good matchup vs Joe Musgrove. Lefties are hitting .273 vs Musgrove this year with a .409 SLG and a 33% HH rate. Leading off for the Cards gives Carp a little more upside and a GPP play tonight.

Other Third Base Options- Eduardo Escobar, Alex Bregman, Justin Turner, Johan Camargo

Cash- For once, shortstop isn’t as loaded as usual, but the cash game play is pretty simple. We already mentioned how much Happ has struggled vs RHH this season and that makes Tim Beckham a solid cash play at $3800. This season, Beckham is hitting .400 vs LHP with a .667 SLG, a 66.7% HR/FB and a 32% HH rate.

GPP- Mike Minor has been filthy this season, but Carlos Correa at $4200 is something special. Two days ago, he went hitless to snap his 16-game hitting streak and then got back on track yesterday going deep. He gets Minor tonight, who has given up a .350 SLG and a 37.5% HH rate vs RHH.

Other Shortstop Options- Paul DeJong, Elvis Andrus, Eduardo Escobar, Cole Tucker

Cash- There are a few areas I am going to be heavy in cash. First, Mitch Haniger and Domingo Santana vs Happ are really solid plays tonight. Brett Gardner and Mike Tauchman will be a forgotten men in the Yankees lineup vs Leake. The Pirates vs Wacha gives some nice salary relief and look into Starling Marte, Gregory Polanco and Melky Cabrera.

GPP- As mentioned above, the Astros are in a tough one, but George Springer and Jake Marisnick make for a GPP plays. The Cardinals combo of Marcell Ozuna and Jose Martinez vs Musgrove are intriguing. Nick Markakis and Ronald Acuna make for solid looks as well vs Weaver.
