Batter Breakdown 5/15

Batter Breakdown 5/15

What a night we had on Tuesday – offenses galore with some nice pitching. That’s what DFS should be like more often. We nailed some really nice GPP plays, including Manny Machado once again taking Kershaw deep. Well, that was all fine and dandy, but we have a new day on our hands. We have an eight-game slate tonight with some pitching to take a look at but also a ton of hitting. It should be a hitter’s paradise once again this evening. Oh, and the Astros are in another absolute smash spot. Let’s see who we are targeting tonight in the Batter Breakdown.

Lately, the catcher position has been pretty straight forward, which is nice, and tonight is much the same. You have Robinson Chirinos, who we’ve profiled often of late in a great spot vs the lefty Gregory Soto. Chirinos let everyone down on Tuesday, making Wednesday a great day to jump back in as you enjoy a cheaper Astros stack at the backend of their lineup. If trying to be a little different, we can go back to the Yasmani Grandal train tonight. I’ve been mentioning him this whole series on Quick Hits and he hasn’t disappointed with at least 10 points in both games including a homer last night. Lastly, you can roll the dice on a cheaper Jorge Alfaro, who will likely face the lefty Beeks after the opener, target Wilson Ramos in a GPP vs Corbin or just punt with a Martin Maldonado type.

First Base

Cash- First base is quite appetizing tonight and for me, it’ll likely be chalky, but it’s all about Yuli Gurriel vs Soto. Similar to Chirinos, Gurriel let many down last night but that just gives more reason to go back to the well today. Gurriel has hit safely in 10 of his last 11 games, hitting .378 over that time with a .600 SLG and 6 extra base hits. He loves facing some lefties and should thrive tonight. He has 1B and 3B eligibility, so you can mix and match for roster construction if necessary.

GPP- Now, we can have some fun. You can pay up for Rhys Hoskins at home vs Gio. We have mentioned here and on Quick Hits, that Hoskins has shown better power vs RHP, but the soft-tossing Gio is someone to target. If you want to go cheaper in a GPP, Eric Thames is live vs Arrieta. My favorite, full YOLO GPP play at 1B tonight is Ronald Guzman. Yep, he could easily put up a massive goose egg, no doubt about that. He’ll be facing Jorge Lopez, who has been giving it up to LHH. This season, lefties are hitting .319 with a .667 SLG, a 31.6% HR/FB and a 37% HH rate. Guzman is dicey, but that’s what makes this GPP and he saves you some cash tonight.

Other First Base Options- Freddie Freeman, Max Muncy, Ji-Man Choi, David Freese, Eric Hosmer

Second Base

Cash- We mentioned Yuli above and now it’s time for his teammate Aledmys Diaz. Diaz has been on an absolute tear since getting the everyday job with Altuve on the IL. Over the last four games, he’s hitting .438 with 3 home runs, a 1.063 SLG and a 44% HH rate. Not to mention the fact that he loves facing lefties. Diaz is a great cash game play tonight and he’s also 1B eligible if you need to move your roster around. A cheaper option could be a punt of Greg Garcia for the Padres vs Maeda, if he’s hitting towards the top of the order. He’s hit safely in four straight games and has an OBP of .500 over that stretch.

GPP- I do like the idea of Mike Moustakas once again and the ever streaking Rougned Odor fits the mold here as well if those please you. But for a little more info, I like the idea of Ozzie Albies vs Michael Wacha. Albies has been in a funk over the last few games, but now you get him at a discount tonight vs Wacha. On the season, LHH are slugging .459 vs Wacha with a 44.4% HH rate. Albies could be a sneaky play for your GPP lineups tonight.

Other Second Base Options- Max Muncy, Kiké Hernandez, Keston Hiura

Third Base

Cash- We are locked and loaded here once again. It’s simple if paying up, you take Alex Bregman or you can save and go Yuli Gurriel. For something non-Astros related, we can dig into Justin Turner tonight vs Matt Strahm, who has actually been better vs RHH than LHH so far this season. I like the fact Turner is on fire. He went hitless in his last game, Monday, and that snapped a six-game hitting streak. But, over the last seven games, even with the O’fer, he’s hitting .370 with 5 home runs and a .963 SLG. Turner is locked in at the plate and should have some fun tonight.

GPP- I have no problem going back to the Manny Machado well again tonight vs Maeda. I never mind targeting super talented players that are too cheap. But this GPP may be one that shocked many. I am really liking the idea of Rafael Devers vs German Marquez tonight. Devers has finally started hitting for power lately. We’ve been preaching that here and on Quick Hits for a while. Last night Devers hit an oppo taco over the Monster for his 3rd home run of the season and his 3rd home run in the last 10 games. He’s riding a six-game hitting streak into tonight’s action but has also hit safely in nine of his last 10 games. Over those 10 games, he’s hitting .422 with 7 extra base hits and a 35% HH rate. It’s risky vs Marquez, but Devers could be oh so sneaky tonight.

Other Third Base Options- Nolan Arenado, Mike Moustakas, Asdrubal Cabrera, Johan Camargo

Cash- Like every other spot so far, Carlos Correa, another Astro makes for a nice cash game play. For your non Astros take we can look into Greg Garcia here as well.

GPP- We can get a little dicier here. You can stick with Manny Machado, or you can go with the lefty masher Sean Rodriguez for some savings. He’s been quite productive in the games he’s started this season, not to mention vs LHP. Versus lefties this season, Rodriguez is hitting .400 with an .800 SLG and an insane 62.5% HH rate. Yes, it’s a small sample, but Rodriguez has crushed lefties his whole career and gets good ole Gio Gonzalez tonight.

Other Shortstop Options- Trevor Story, Paul DeJong, Jean Segura

Cash- For your cash game targets tonight, it starts with George Springer, who is the hottest hitter in baseball. He’s averaging over 17 DK points per game over his last 10 and he faces a left-handed batting practice pitcher. Michael Brantley makes for a nice cash play and lower-owned option as well. Most will see the lefty-lefty matchup, but the Tigers bullpen should be used plenty as well, leading to some nice spots for Brantley. Christian Yelich is always in play and shouldn’t be forgotten vs Arrieta. Shin-Soo Choo is another intriguing cash game option in the outfield as he faces Lopez. Don’t sleep on Nick Markakis or Adam Eaton either.

GPP- There are a lot of GPP options tonight. You have Eric Thames and Austin Meadows in their respective games. Risky but nice upside. I LOVE some Joey Gallo tonight and even sprinkle in some Nomar Mazara or Hunter Pence. The Cardinals make for an interesting play again tonight vs Soroka and that means Marcell Ozuna, Jose Martinez and Dexter Fowler could be GPP targets. Like Devers above, I think Andrew Benintendi makes for an interesting GPP play. Lastly never forget Franmil Reyes.

Top Stacks- HOU, TEX
