Batter Breakdown 5/11

Batter Breakdown 5/11

Pretty solid night on the diamond last night. Runs galore and capped off with some Joc Jams home runs. Today there’s a 6 game early slate and I’ll put my cliff notes in the member discord. This article is for the 8 game main slate tonight. Be careful when building lineups as the DET/MIN game is Game 2 of a double header. The lineups may be a little wanky, but for now we are treating it like it’s a regular situation. All weather looks ok for now, so knock on wood we should have all 8 games in play. There’s a pitching duel out west between Scherzer and Buehler. We also have deGrom and Cole on the slate. So, there’s some lights out aces as well as some gas cans to target. Let’s see who we like for tonight’s action in the Batter Breakdown.

Catcher- There are some more options than normal on tonight’s slate when it comes to the catching position. If he’s starting Game 2, and he should be, then Mitch Garver vs the young lefty Gregory Soto is the play if paying up. This season Garver is hitting .533 with an .800 SLG vs LHP. If going cheaper at catcher then look at Robinson Chirinos vs Drew Smyly. The Rangers are using the opener and Smyly will be coming in after Chavez. This season Chirinos is hitting .333 with a .467 SLG vs LHP. If looking to punt it’s down to Grayson Greiner and Tucker Barnhart.

First Base

Cash- At first base we are going to go very cheap in cash, in order to get some of those aces. We’ll go all the way down to Yuli Gurriel at $3100 vs Smyly. Gurriel has hit well vs LHP this season, to the tune of a .296 BA and a .519 SLG. After a slow start to the season, Gurriel is on a heater. He’s hit safely in 7 straight games. Over that 7 games hitting streak he’s hitting .407 with a .741 SLG and a 38% HH rate.

GPP- For GPP we go off the wall a bit and head to Game 2 of tonight’s double dip. In his career CJ Cron has hit LHP very well and this season has been a bit of the same. This season he’s currently hitting .286 with a .714 SLG, .429 ISO and a 38.5% HH rate vs LHP. Gregory Soto will be making his first start above AA this season and may not get a warm welcome in Minnesota.

Other First Base Options- Rhys Hoskins, Freddie Freeman, Eric Hosmer, Joey Votto, Hunter Dozier

Second Base

Cash- With Sandy Alcantara taking the bump for the Fish tonight it’s all about a $3500 Robinson Cano batting 3rd most nights. Cano hasn’t had the strongest of season, but has got it going over his last 3. He’s 6 for 14 overly his last 3, slugging it .615 and a 55% HH rate. LHH this season are hitting .280 with a .452 SLG. Cano has a solid floor and perfect for cash tonight.

GPP- Jonathan Schoop is coming into Game 2 tonight swinging a hot stick. To top off the hot stick he gets the lefty youngster Soto in his debut. This season Schoop is hitting .417 with a .750 SLG vs LHP and makes for a very nice GPP target.

Other Second Base Options- Whit Merrifield, Ketel Marte, Derek Dietrich, Ronny Rodriguez, Greg Garcia

Third Base

Cash- We have Nolan Arenado once again in Coors tonight vs a lefty in Lucchesi. If not going Arenado you can save a couple bucks and jump on Alex Bregman. Bregman will face Chavez in his first at bat then Smyly comes in and then the wonderful Rangers pen. Smyly has struggled a ton vs RHH and Bregman brings his hot stick into tonight’s action to make it worse.

GPP- Getting a piece of the Coors action is always nice, especially when it’s only $4000. Obviously Manny Machado is a great option tonight, but his teammate Ty France is in play as well. He’s facing Jon Gray tonight that has struggled a little vs RHH this season at home. Righties in Coors are hitting .313 with a .375 SLG s far this season vs Gray. Over his last 8 games France is hitting .304 with a home run and slugging .535. Makes for a low owned GPP play with that Coors upside,

Other Third Base Options- Hunter Dozier, Eduardo Escobar, Jeff McNeil, Yuli Gurriel, Jeimer Candelario

Shortstop

Cash- Trevor Story at home vs a lefty against tonight. Lucchesi isn’t your average lefty, but rules are rules if you want to go there. The pivot would be Ronny Rodriguez vs Stewart of the Twins. Stewart made one start this year and it wasn’t great. Expect more the same tonight. Rodriguez has been batting in the middle of the Tigers order and will look to stay hot. In the month of May he’s hitting .333 with a .600 SLG, a .267 ISO and a 55% HH rate. Ride the hot streak while you can for $4300.

GPP- Adalberto Mondesi has been super streaky this season, but comes in swinging it well. He’s hit safely in 5 of his last 6 games with a .600 SLG, 5 extra base hits and 2 steals. Zach Eflin has been very good this season, but you can attack him with left handed hitters. This season LHH are hitting .292 and a .492 SLG. It’s a risky play indeed but Mondesi will be low owned with some nice upside tonight.

Other Shortstop Options- Jorge Polanco, Manny Machado, Eduardo Escobar, Carlos Correa, Amed Rosario, Jose Iglesias, Jose Peraza

Outfield

Cash- We have some fun targets in cash tonight and that starts with George Springer and Michael Brantley in that mess of a game vs all the Rangers pitchers. The Mets outfield is a gold mine this evening at all different price points. You get a pricier Michael Conforto, a mid priced Jeff McNeil and thena $3500 Brandon Nimmo. All solid cash options tonight. A few other cash OF looks would be Wil Myers, Ketel Marte, David Peralta and Jarrod Dyson.

GPP- I mentioned Myers above, he’s more cash due to value, but Hunter Renfroe and Franmil Reyes make nice GPP targets vs Gray. In that same game the Rockies OF of Blackmon, Dahl and Tapia make for GPP plays of their own. I always like Eddie Rosario and Max Kepler, but tonight don’t forget Nelson Cruz and Byron Buxton vs Soto. Christian Stewart is back with the Tigers and makes for a nice value play with some power upside, batting a top the lineup vs Stewart. There are many other options when it comes to GPP targets today.
