Batter Breakdown 5/10

Batter Breakdown 5/10

What a letdown Seattle was last night. JA Happ pitched his best game of the season. But that’s baseball and I’d play them again in the same situation. Tonight we get a massive 14-game slate, with five game totals over 9 and a lot to like. We don’t have to go to just Coors, which is nice, and we have an Angels team that’s IRT continues to grow…which you can check out in the MLB Line Movement tool. Let’s see who we are targeting with tonight’s Batter Breakdown.

Catcher

There are two high priced targets tonight at the catcher position. You can JT Realmuto in KC vs the punching bag Homer Bailey. Or you go to Coors and we attack Eric Lauer with power hitting catcher Chris Iannetta. If looking to save some cash, you can wait for the punts when lineups come out or give Tucker Barnhart a look vs Mr. Pitch to Contact Derek Rodriguez.

First Base

Cash- There are a lot of really nice ways to go at first base in cash tonight. Up top, it’s all about Cody Bellinger vs Anibal Sanchez. He’s super expensive, but no one can argue with the fact he’s earned that price. This season, Cody is hitting .440 with a .881 SLG, a 38.5% HR/FB rate and a 56% HH rate. He’s crushing it and Anibal is giving up a .559 SLG to LHH this season. If looking to save at 1B, then you go down to Matt Carpenter coming off a monster Thursday night vs Trevor Williams. This season LHH are hitting .304 and a .435 SLG vs Williams.

GPP- Everyone’s favorite German Marquez takes the mound tonight, but wait, it’s in Coors Field. We’ve seen him be about average in Coors this season. He faces a Padres team with a lot of RHH that he could potentially dominate, but at 1B, he gets Eric Hosmer. This season, Hosmer is hitting .299 vs RHP, with a .523 SLG and a 42% HH rate. The Padres will go very low owned in Coors tonight and I love every bit about that.

Other First Base Options- Rhys Hoskins, Jose Abreu, Max Muncy, Mark Reynolds, Matt Olson, Justin Smoak, Yonder Alonso, Joey Votto, Chris Davis

Second Base

Cash- Similar to Belli above, we get Max Muncy at 2B tonight vs Anibal and a great play in cash. This season Muncy is slugging .416 vs RHP with a 41.5% HH rate. If you want to go cheap here, you can look at Ian Kinsler in Coors, but there’s still some risk, maybe too risky for cash.

GPP- There are a lot of ways to go here and some may say this is a cash game, but I’ll say hold your horses to that. Tommy La Stella has come out of nowhere and now has three double dong games this season. He’s $4300 tonight in hitter-friendly Camden Yards vs Dan Straily. At his price point and matchup, La Stella makes for a really nice GPP play tonight.

Other Second Base Options- Whit, Ketel Marte, Cesar Hernandez, Jose Altuve, Eric Sogard, Jonathan Villar, Adam Frazier, Jurickson Profar, Robinson Cano

Third Base

Cash- If spending up in case it’s all about Nolan Arenado at home vs Eric Lauer. This season, Lauer is giving up a .453 SLG vs RHH and a 44.4% HH rate. Arenado loves him some LHP as this season he’s hitting .410 with a .923 SLG and a 44% HH rate. Lock and load your Arenado as he’s one of the top overall plays on the slate. If you need to go cheaper, you can to Matt Carpenter, who we discussed above, or ride Justin Turner’s hot streak vs Anibal.

GPP- Yoan Moncada is the total boom-or-bust GPP guy you are looking for and tonight gets a great matchup vs Daniel Hudson and the Jays bullpen. He’s hitting .295 this season with a .579 SLG and a 37% HH rate vs RHP this season. Other cheap GPP 3B options are Tommy La Stella and Ty France in Coors but more as a stack piece.

Other Third Base Options- Eduardo Escobar, Manny Machado, Jeff McNeil, Rafael Devers, Rio Ruiz

Shortstop

Cash- Jorge Polanco is in a great spot tonight at $5700 vs Ross and will likely go overlooked since you get the legend Trevor Story at home vs a lefty. Story is the better lock-and-load play with his home success vs lefties. But if you want some ownership pivots, it’s Polanco. Cheaper SS targets in cash are Corey Seager vs Anibal or Jose Iglesias and Jose Peraza vs Dereck Rodriguez

GPP- Paul DeJong is such a juicy GPP play tonight. Trevor Williams is good vs RHH but not great. DeJong is crushing it, will go overlooked on this slate and loves him some RHP. This season, DeJong is hitting .325 with a .563 SLG and a 49.5% HH rate vs RHP. No one will own him and that will be a beautiful thing later tonight. Jonathan Villar is a cheaper option I’ll be targeting as well at SS vs Trevor Cahill in Camden.

Other Shortstop Options- Adalberto Mondesi, Carlos Correa, Eduardo Escobar, Eric Sogard, Manny Machado, Francisco Lindor, Xander Bogaerts

Outfield

Cash- On such a deep slate there will be a ton of ways to go tonight. Trout, Ohtani, Calhoun and Goodwin are all in play for the Angels vs Straily. Bellinger, Joc and Verdugo are outstanding lower owned cash targets vs Anibal. The Astros face Lance Lynn tonight and lefties smash him, so Brantley and Reddick are great, but you can also ride the red hot George Springer. JD Martinez and Andrew Benintendi are way too cheap tonight vs Erik Swanson of the Mariners. Lastly, check out Eddie Rosario and Max Kepler vs Ross.

GPP- The Padres combo of Hunter Renfroe and Franmil Reyes are sneaky nice for GPPs. We know Justin Verlander will give up at least 1 homer tonight so look at Gallo, Mazara or Pence for the Rangers if you want to get weird. Teheran can be a nice arm to attack tonight and that makes David Peralta and Jarrod Dyson quite interesting. Lastly, for the Pirates check out Polanco, Marte and Melky vs Wainwright.
