Batter Breakdown 4/15

Batter Breakdown 4/15

Another wild weekend in the books and a lot of green screens showing up in the member discord. We keep on rolling with a nice nine-game Monday slate. There are a couple of top-end arms, two facing off in Philadelphia, and then some really nice arms to target and stack against. Let’s see what bats we are focusing on tonight with the Batter Breakdown.

Catcher

Cash- We kick off the always pleasant catcher position with Jonathan Lucroy, who is never a sexy name, but he puts together solid plate appearances and has a great matchup tonight. Shelby will be back on the bump after a round start to the season and will be back in hitter-friendly Arlington. In his limited time this season, RHH are hitting .500 of Miller with a .480 wOBA and a 40% HH rate. Lucroy may not light the world on fire tonight, but he should have a nice floor, in a great matchup with some really nice upside.

GPP- James McCann has started off the season with a bang. He’s hitting .308 on the season with and a .833 OPS. He’ll have a prime matchup tonight at home vs Heath Fillmyer, who got off to a rough start to the season by allowing 5 ER in just three innings of work. McCann will look to stay hot as he’s racked up 8 or more DK points in three of his last four and Fillmyer may be the man to help him stay hot.

Other Catcher Options- Yasmani Grandal, Austin Hedges, Yadier Molina, Martin Maldonado

First Base

Cash- Ervin Santana made his first start of the season last time out and gave up 7 ER in 3.1 IP. Now he faces the red hot Kansas City Royals and our cash game target, Ryan O’Hearn. We’ve been riding the red hot O’Hearn of late and rightfully so. He is a nice left-handed power threat vs Santana. Santana has given up a career .330 wOBA and 31% HH rate with plays into O’Hearn’s favor as well. To top it off O’Hearn has 9 or more DK points in three straight games and the fact he’s reached base in six of his last 12 plate appearances.

GPP- I know it sounds crazy to recommend Cody Bellinger as a GPP play, but he definitely fits the mold vs Luis Castillo tonight. Castillo has struggled vs LHP in his career, but this season has only given up a .034 BA, a .145 wOBA, a 45.7% K rate, a 50% GB rate and a nice 15.4% HH rate. That is one impressive start to the year, especially considering Castillo shut down a lot of that Milwaukee Brewer lefty thump. Now to the part where we want to play Bellinger. So far this season Bellinger is hitting everything in site, especially vs RHP. He’s hitting .477, with a .640 wOBA, a .591 ISO, a HR/FB of 46.7% and a 52.5% HH rate. This is a matter of who stays hot tonight and I’ll take my chances with Belli vs Castillo and more importantly that Reds bullpen.

Other First Base Options- Jose Abreu, Anthony Rizzo, Justin Bour, Yonder Alonso, Travis Shaw, Hunter Dozier, Albert Pujols

Second Base

Cash- The Milwaukee Brewers are going to be a hot commodity tonight and rightfully so. They will be facing off against the Cardinals youngster Dakota Hudson who had a very rocky first start to the season. Now, he’ll be pitching in hitter-friendly Miller Park and that powerful Brew Crew lineup. For cash games tonight look into Mike Moustakas. Moose has usually hit lefties well to start the season and that has continued this season. Early on he’s hitting .263, with a .418 wOBA and a 56.7% HH rate. Moose has a really solid floor tonight and some major upside vs Hudson.

GPP- The Twins will be facing off with Matt Shoemaker tonight and he’s been off to a very hot start. Jonathan Schoop has been quietly having a hot stretch of his own right now. School comes into Monday’s action hitting .256 with 2 home runs and a .802 OPS. He brings a ton of power and GPP upside into tonight’s action vs the Maker of Shoes. Shoemaker has had a bit of reverse splits in his career. Righties have hit .248 with a .312 wOBA and a 32.6% HH rate.

Other Second Base Options- Whit Merrifield, Kolten Wong, Robinson Cano, Neil Walker, Starlin Castro, David Fletcher

Third Base

Cash- Manny Machado has 5 or more DK points in four straight games while hitting .246 with 4 home runs on this young season. He has a great matchup tonight vs Antonio Senzatela. Machado doesn’t have a major split to target as he hits everyone, but Senzatela does as his been hit really hard by RHH. In his career, Senzatela has given up a .267 BA with a .334 wOBA and a 34% HH rate vs RHH. Get some Manny Machado in your cash game lineups tonight.

GPP- Matt Carpenter gets a price decrease tonight as he faces Freddy Peralta tonight. Peralta is that major boom-or-bust arm as he’s given up 4 ER, 0 ER and 7 ER in his three starts this season. He throws his fastball a ton, like a ton. When he’s off he gets hit all over the yard. That’s where MARP comes into play. At the nice discounted price of $3800, Carpenter is a major GPP target. He has 13 or more DK points in back to back games. He will be coming back from Mexico so let’s hope there isn’t Montezuma’s Revenge coming around, but all in all a solid GPP target tonight.

Other Third Base Options- Yoan Moncada, Mike Moustakas, Asdrubal Cabrera, Travis Shaw, Eugenio Suarez, David Fletcher, Kris Bryant

Shortstop

Cash- Tim Anderson comes into tonight’s game vs hitter-friendly Heath Fillmyer. Anderson is hitting .429 on the year with 3 home runs, 5 stolen bases and a solid 1.093 OPS. Anderson has scored 8 or more DK points in 10 of his last 11 games and is in a smash spot vs Fillmyer tonight.

GPP- Elvis Andrus comes into tonight’s action on fire scoring 8 or more DK points in three straight games including 12 or more in three of four. Andrus is hitting .414 on the season with 3 home runs and 4 stolen bases. He’s facing Trevor Cahill who has done well overall in his career vs RHH. In a small sample this season he has a 15.4% HR/FB rate and a 36% HH rate. If the Rangers and Andrus can get to Cahill, then they have a mediocre Angels offense to attack as well, making Andrus a nice GPP look tonight.

Other Shortstop Options- Adalberto Mondesi, Paul DeJong, Jorge Polanco, Freddy Galvis, Corey Seager, Javy Baez

Outfield

Cash- Alex Gordon, yes Alex Gordon makes a nice cash game target tonight. He’s hitting third in the Royals lineup and gets the mess that is Ervin Santana. You can also look at Gordon’s teammate Hunter Dozier and his cheap price tag as salary relief and a solid floor. Dozier is hitting .277 with 3 home runs and a solid 44.4 % HH rate. Lastly, we will target Jason Heyward. I am not overly thrilled with targeting Trevor Richards, but we can’t overlook what Heyward has been doing to start the season. Heyward is hitting .375 with 4 home runs and a 47.4% HH rate.

GPP- There are a lot of GPP options in the outfield tonight. There’s Nelson Cruz vs the reverse splits of Matt Shoemaker. There’s Joc Pederson vs Luis Castillo. And then there’s Eloy Jimenez vs Heath Fillmyer. There are a lot of ways to go and I’d recommend listening to Quick Hits and asking questions in the chat.

Other Outfield Options- Christian Yelich, Cody Bellinger, Lorenzo Cain, Michael Conforto, Joey Gallo/Shin-Soo Choo, Randal Grichuk, Byron Buxton, Terrance Gore, Yasiel Puig

Stacks

Cash- The Kansas City Royals will be a major target tonight. Whit is always in play and Mondesi is heating up. Then throw in some Gordon, O’Hearn, Dozier and Soler. A lot to like with the Royals. Other than the Royals in cash there’s the White Sox, the Los Angeles Angels and the pricier but in a smash spot Milwaukee Brewers.

GPP-  The Texas Rangers are a nice GPp stack tonight. The bats are red hot and at home ready to smash. Depends on what Cahill shows up. You have Choo, Gallo, Andrus for starters and then maybe some Mazara or DeShields. For some deeper stacks the St Louis Cardinals and the Los Angeles Dodgers.
