Batter Breakdown 4/14

Batter Breakdown 4/14

We have a nice little Sunday slate head, 8 games to be exact. As I write this we already have some lineups out so that will help a bit. As is typical for Sundays, these won’t be as in depth. Any questions you have fire away in the members Discord.

Pitching

We have a handful of aces or upper end options today. Mad Max is definitely in play against the Buccos and is surprisingly below $11K. A nice high end pivot will be Jose Berrios vs the Tigers. A Tigers team that can be very offensively challenged at times and we also know how much better Berrios has been at home. Charlie Morton and Masahiro Tanaka both have some really tasty matchups, but more GPP than cash. If paying up go Max or Berrios in cash or GPP and then you can pivot to Morton or Tanaka if you want to be a little different in GPP.

If looking for some savings I am looking at Jakob Junis vs the offensively challenged Indians. Junis doesn’t have huge K upside and can give up a long ball or 2 but hopefully can put together another quality start. The other cheapy will be Jordan Zimmermann. Zimm had a really rocky start his last time out, but his overall start to the season has been really strong. The Twins can play home run derby at times, but Zimm can also rack up some K’s and give you 6 solid at a very cheap price.

Catcher

The catcher position is awful today. Like really really bad. You can pay up for Mitch Garver who is swinging a hot bat and may get a struggling Zimm. If you want to just go full YOLO and punt the position (what I plan on doing) then look at Michael Perez vs Stroman or Jesus Sucre vs Price. The GPP play is Francisco Cervelli vs Max.

First Base

One of my favorite plays at 1B today is Steve Pearce vs the lefty Pearce. We know just how good Pearce hits lefties and he’ll be in the middle of the Red Sox lineup that on paper should have a field day today. Trey Mancini and Luke Voit both face off with lefties, and can be used in GPPs if looking for the boom or bust upside. If you are punting at the position and want some GPP looks give Yonder Alonso vs Tanaka who will give a long ball or 2, Ryan O’Hearn vs the not quite himself Corey Kluber or Neil Walker vs Vinny Velasquez who loves to throw the heater and give up some very loud contact.

Second Base

At the top of the pricing you have Jonathan Villar and Whit Merrifield both in play in GPPs, tough matchups with high price tags but huge upside. You can drop below $4K and give Brandon Lowe a look vs Stroman or going with Dustin Pedroia who is leading off and makes for a really nice cash game look at $3700. If you want to go full punt again go back to Miami and look at Walker or Starlin Castro.

Third Base

One of the top GPP plays at the hot corner today is Yoan Moncada vs Tanaka. We know how locked in Moncada has been to start the year and could find some balls heading towards that short right field porch of Tanaka today. After Moncada it’s a bunch of punts for the most part. You can save with Marwin Gonzalez vs Zimm, pick on Stroman some more with Daniel Robertson, Colin Moran praying he takes Max deep or take the ultimate punt to free up some cash with the $2900 Brian Anderson.

Shortstop

Shortstop has been loaded day in and day out, Sunday is no different. Xander Bogaerts vs Means is in an absolute smash spot. You can look into Tim Anderson in a GPP vs Tanaka and see if he stays red hot. If you want to save some you can look at Jorge Polanco in a good spot vs Zimm or if you feel like fading Charlie Morton then Freddy Galvis is a very live GPP play today.

Outfield

As usual locked and loaded outfield is led by the duo in Boston with Mookie Betts and J.D. Martinez going up against Means. They are do for a monster game sooner than later. Dropping down you have the red hot Austin Meadows vs Stroman. If you are fading Zimm then you look into Max Kepler and Eddie Rosario. Jose Ureña is a good pitcher, but not great so Bryce Harper and Odubel Herrera are definitely in play as lefties mash Ureña. If you are the ever so fun fade Kluber train then look at Alex Gordon and maybe even some Jorge Soler. The Grandy Man, Curtis Granderson makes for a fun GPP play leading off vs Vinny V. Lastly you can go GPP with Eloy Jimenez vs Tanaka or full punt with Melky Cabrera vs Max.

Stacks

For your cash games the Red Sox and their mashers are the way to go with 1-5 all in play. The Phillies and the Rays round out some other looks. Oh yeah, and don’t sleep on the Yankees power vs Rodon. For your YOLO GPP looks it’s all about the Royals vs the Klubot or the Marlins vs Vinny V.
