Batter Breakdown 4/13

Batter Breakdown 4/13

Another fun Friday night on the diamond, leading to some more green screens in the member’s Discord. Today we have a 7 game early and a 7 game main slate on DraftKings. I’ll be previewing the 7 game main slates, but for any questions don’t hesitate to ask in the Discord chat or hit me up on Twitter @bdentre. For the main slate the pitching leaves a lot of options to attack. Justin Verlander and Merrill Kelly are the main arms I would look to use with Sean Newcomb and Matt Strahm outside GPP plays. Also, be careful with weather tonight as there are some slight rain chances and then there’s Texas which could be really sporty. But you are here for the bats so let’s see who to use in today’s Batter Breakdown. (Side note, the Dodgers are bull penning it today with Ferguson starting and then likely Santana, this doesn’t change the thoughts on the Brew Crew players mentioned)

Cash- Yasmani Grandal welcomed himself back to Dodger Stadium with a homer on Friday night and finds himself in a nice spot again tonight. Dennis Santana will be making the spot start for the Dodgers and we have seen some success from Santana. But we’ve also seen how lefties can attack Grandal in his small MLB sample size and then in his time in the minors. Santana has decent K stuff, but if he hangs out to much in the zone he can get beat and Grandal may be just the man for the job.

GPP- This is not a sexy play by any means, but it’s a cheap play on DK with some upside in a great matchup…..aka a GPP play. Roberto Perez has always been a backup catcher, but this season he has taken over as the starter for the Indians and has shown some signs of life in the batter box. He has 10 or more DK points in 2 of his last 3 days and the thing really in his favor is facing Homer Bailey. Perez isn’t a big BA guy, has a little power, but we are looking for some points and upside. Last season Perez had a 41.4% HH rate and a 38.2% FB rate vs RHP. Again, not a sexy pick but is some value at an overall ugly catcher position.

Other Catcher Options- Josh Phegley, Tyler Flowers, Isiah Kiner-Falefa

First Base

Cash- Cody Bellinger is basically a lock and load these days, but I won’t be writing him every time as that’s too easy. For tonight’s cash action we go back to the Indians, and that doesn’t feel great, but we go with Carlos Santana. Santana only has 1 home run on the year but he’s still raking, hitting .415 with a .457 wOBA. He’s raking and he’s also scoring on DK with 6 or more points in 9 of his last 10. Consistent floors are what we are looking for in cash, oh and it doesn’t hurt that he’ll be facing Homer Bailey.

GPP- On the flip side of the Indians game we look at the Royals first baseman, Ryan O’Hearn. O’Hearn started off the season very hot and then hit the skids for 5 or 6 games. He was back with a 9 point night last night and tonight he gets Jefry Rodriguez making a spot start. Rodriguez hasn’t seen much time in the bigs, but in his small time lefties have hit him well. They have a .381 wOBA, 43% FB rate and a 36% HH rate. O’Hearn has a great chance to go deep tonight.

Other First Base Options- Paul Goldschmidt, Jurickson Profar, Kendrys Morales, Logan Forsythe, Yuli Gurriel

Second Base

Cash- I am going right back to the Jose Altuve well tonight vs King Felix. Altuve is back to that MVP form. He’s homered in 4 straight, 5 totals. He has 14 or more DK points in 5 straight games. He’s absolutely raking. He’s loved facing Felix going 14 for 29 with 4 doubles and 1 home run. Just fire up Altuve again tonight.

GPP- The Brew Crew are one of the targets I love tonight. We’ve already mentioned Grandal and at 2B I like Mike Moustakas. We know the power Moose has, especially vs LHP. Looking at Moose’s statcast data and he has a barrel rate of 19.4%, and EV of 92.4 MPH and an insane HH rate of 44.4%. Lock in Moose for a big night tonight.

Other Second Base Options- Whit Merrifield, Ozzie Albies, Jurickson Profar, Wilmer Flores

Third Base

Cash- Let’s head to Monterey, Mexico (a hitter friendly venue)  and pick on Tanner Roark with Matt Carpenter. Carp hasn’t been lighting the world on fire early, but the stars may be aligning vs Roark tonight. We have Roark his has been hit hard by lefties. In his career lefties have a .323 wOBA, a HH rate close to 30% and the kicker since he’s pitching tonight in Mexico with is his 38.5% FB rate. Carp makes for a solid cash game play today.

GPP- The Dodgers bats have been red hot and they are definitely in play tonight. But many will focus on the lefties, and rightfully so, but we will focus on a RHH. We will focus on Justin Turner. Turner has been hitting second in the Dodges lineup and has taken full advantage. He’s hitting .286 with 8 runs and 8 RBIs. He’ll be taking his 38% HH rate into tonight’s action vs Zack Davies. Davies is known to get hit around by lefties but last season righties had a .316 wOBA, a 20% HR/FB and a 40% HH rate.

Other Third Base Options- Matt Chapman, Eugenio Suarez, Mike Moustakas, Asdrubal Cabrera, Eduardo Escobar, Logan Forsythe, Yuli Gurriel

Cash- Corey Seager has been red hot of late. Seager is hitting .280 on the season with 2 jimmy jacks. He’s scored 12 or more DK point in back to back games. Facing off with Zack Davies tonight and his struggles vs lefties makes Seager a solid cash game play.

GPP- Paul DeJong has slowly seen his price go up and it’s about darn time. The man mashes and he’s continued to do that to start the season. He’s barreling up 18.9% of the time, with a .455 wOBA and a 51.4% HH rate!!!! He’s crushing it and tonight will be in Monterey, Mexico vs Tanner Roark. Give me all the Paul DeJong tonight.

Other Shortstop Options- Carlos Correa, Marcus Semien, Dansby Swanson, Amed Rosario, Eduardo Escobar, Nick Ahmed

Cash- You have Belli Bombs here again. Christian Yelich is in a smash spot vs Santana. But there are a couple cheaper options I’ll mention for cash. Alex Gordon continues to hit 3rd for the Royals and continues to be very cheap. He went 4 for 5 last night with 2 double and a homer. He has 8 or more points in 4 straight including 3 double digit games and tonight he cases Jefry Rodriguez. In that same matchup you can get same game you can also look at Leonys Marti2n. Martin has slowly heated up, scoring 7 or more points in 4 straight games. He is leading off, has 2 home runs on the season and gets Homer Bailey tonight.

GPP- When it comes to GPPs you have KRUSH and Gallo in a weather permitting slug fest. But one of the top GPP plays is back in Los Angeles with out man Joc Pederson. Joc had another great night last night hitting his 5th home run of the season. He has double digit DK points in 3 straight games. Joc currently has a barrel rate of almost 16% and a HH rate of 52.6% and gets to face Davies tonight. A cheaper GPP play takes us back to GAB and to Jesse Winker. Winker started off the season extremely slow, but now has 3 straight double digit DK games and home runs in 2 of his last 3. If leading off for the Reds he is a really solid GPP play tonight.

Other Outfield Options- Ronald Acuña, Lo Cain, George Springer, Michael Brantley, Shin Soo Choo, Jorge Soler, Stephen Piscotty, Nomar Mazara, Alex Verdugo

Cash- The Los Angeles Dodger is one of my favorite stacks tonight. The lefties in Joc, Belli and Seager really stand out. Maybe Muncy returns to the lineup or you get some Verdugo. But also don’t forget about Turner and Kiké. The Oakland A’s and Texas Rangers are also great stack but watch the weather.

GPP- Give me all the low owned Houston Astros yet again. Altuve, Springer, Correa yet again in play vs King Felix. Don’t forget Brantley and maybe even some Josh Reddick. A couple other GPP stacks would be the Milwaukee Brewers and a mixture of the Cards/Reds game which should be an offensive explosion.
