Batter Breakdown 4/12

Batter Breakdown 4/12

After a slow Thursday of MLB action, we have a loaded 12-game slate on tap tonight. There are so many ways to go on tonight’s slate. There are some really easy targets, well on paper. There are some risky ones with some major upside. Tonight is a great night to take some chances if you’d like or play some really nice, comfortable cash lines. Let’s see who we like tonight in the Batter Breakdown.

Catcher

Cash- The A’s stormed through Camden Yards and beat down that Orioles pitching staff. A major key to that was catcher Josh Phegley. He hit 2 home runs and drove in 5 runs over the three-game series. On the season, he is hitting .313 and looks to take advantage of a solid matchup vs Drew Smyly in hitter-friendly Arlington tonight. Smyly has had his struggles vs RHH. Smyly has a career .329 wOBA, 45.5% FB rate and a HH rate of 31% vs LHH. Phegley makes for a nice cash game catcher tonight.

GPP- We shall target J.A. Happ at home vs the White Sox. Happ hasn’t made it through five innings yet this season. He’s given up 6 ER and 3 home runs in 8.1 innings so far this season. Welington Castillo is a very very nice GPP play tonight. We know Castillo brings some nice power vs LHP and will look to take advantage of Happ’s slow start. If Castillo doesn’t start and his teammate James McCann starts, he’s in play for GPPs as well.

Other Catcher Options- Isiah Kiner-Falefa, Francisco Cervelli

First Base

Cash- Trey Mancini has been on fire to start the season and those that have followed me this offseason know that I was on the Trey Boo Boo train all along. He’s currently hitting .333 on the year with 6 home runs already this season. He’ll be facing Eduardo Rodriguez, who does have reverse splits, pitching better vs RHH. But I will still roll Trey in cash as Rodriguez has been struggling tremendously out the gate. He’s given up 11 ER in eight innings so far this season, with 2 home runs (2.25 HR/9) and almost a 40% HH rate. Give me some Trey Boo Boo tonight.

GPP- Similar to the catcher position, and I won’t do this at every position, I’ll roll with Chicago White Sox Jose Abreu. He’s only hitting .196 on the season but does have 3 home runs early on this season. Happ and his struggles vs RHH may cure his ills. Abreu has loved facing lefties in his career. Last season he hit .290 with a .380 wOBA, a 26.3% HR/FB and a 43.8% HH rate!!!! Abreu loves him some LHP and is a solid GPP play tonight.

Other First Base Options- Cody Bellinger, Luke Voit, Mitch Moreland, Ryan Healy, Brandon Belt, Jurickson Profar, Jake Bauers, Aledmys Diaz

Second Base

Cash- We’ll keep this simple, go back to the red hot Jose Altuve. Altuve hit 2 home runs on Wednesday night and is hitting .314 on the season with 5 home runs and 1 stolen base. He’s on fire and gets Wade LeBlanc tonight. Roll out Altuve and many more Astros tonight.

GPP- Chad Pinder may have started the season a bit slow, but the Orioles fixed all that. He collected 7 hits and a home run which brings his season BA to .333 and has 3 home runs to go with 8 RBIs. We know how much Pinder likes facing lefties and gets Smyly tonight. Last season, Pinder hit .289 with a .361 wOBA and an insane HH rate of 55.9%. Look for Pinder to swipe right tonight.

Other Second Base Options- Ozzie Albies, Jurickson Profar, Rougned Odor, Neil Walker, Dylan Moore

Third Base

Cash- We are going back to the A’s and not for GPP but cash with Matt Chapman. Like most of the A’s, he’s coming in red hot and will look to tee off on Smyly. Chapman rested on Thursday, but on Wednesday he went 3 for 5 with a home run, 2 doubles and 3 RBIs. Last season he hit .287 vs LHP with a .352 wOBA and a 42.2% HH rate. Load up some Matt Chapman.

GPP- Nolan Arenado is coming into this weekend series in San Francisco not quite as hot as he would like. But tonight, he faces lefty Drew Pomeranz who has been torched by LHH in his career. Last season alone Pomeranz allowed a .297 BA, a .401 wOBA, a 19.7% HR/FB rate and a 35.6% HH rate. Tonight might be the night for Arenado to explode and you’ll want him in your GPP lineups at low ownership.

Other Third Base Options- Anthony Rendon, Manny Machado, Rafael Devers, Asdrubal Cabrera, Ryon Healy, Eduardo Escobar, Yuli Gurriel

Shortstop

Cash- We’ll go back to Houston and go with Carlos Correa vs Wade LeBlanc. Correa is coming off a solid 3 for 5 night with a ding dong on Wednesday and now gets to face Mr. LeBlanc. He has a career .293 BA with a .370 wOBA and a 38.4% HH rate. Lock and load some Carlos Correa tonight.

GPP- We are going back to the OAK/TEX game and Marcus Semien is in play, but here we are going to talk about Elvis Andrus. Andrus comes into tonight hitting .380 with 4 extra base hits and 7 RBIs. He’s hit safely in all but 2 games this season. He’ll be hitting in hitter friendly Arlington tonight and facing Mike Fiers who has been hit hard by RHH in his career. Last season RHH hit .267 with a .335 wOBA, a 43.1% FB rate and a 38.6% HH rate vs Fiers.

Other Shortstop Options- Alex Bregman, Tim Anderson, Xander Bogaerts, Trevor Story, Fernando Tatis Jr., Tim Beckham, Eduardo Escobar, Freddy Galvis

Outfield

Cash- So so many options on a 12-game slate and I highly recommend listening to MLB DFS Quick Hits for a lot of them and then joining us in the member Discord chat. A few cash options to look at though. Khris Davis has back to back DOUBLE DONG games and now gets Drew Smyly in Arlington…..YES PLEASE!!!!! Shin Soo Choo vs Fiers has a solid floor for your cash lineups tonight. David Hess facing the Red Sox usually won’t end well so give me all the Mookie Betts and maybe even more J.D. Martinez.

GPP- We’ve talked about a few Rangers already and I think one of the best GPP options tonight with his double dong upside and still his 0-4 with 4 K abilities is Joey Gallo. Eloy Jimenez is off to a very slow start in his rookie campaign, but a night vs J.A. Happ and his early season struggles could be the cure, not to mention his cheap price tag.

Other Outfield Options- Cody Bellinger, Bryce Harper, Michael Conforto, Hunter Renfroe, Trey Mancini, Victor Robles, Mitch Haniger, Chad Pinder, Lorenzo Cain, George Springer, Starling Marte, Nomar Mazara, David Peralta, Ryan Braun, Jake Marisnick, Nick Markakis, Delino Deshields Jr, Brandon Nimmo, Jake Bauers, Steven Duggar

Stacks

Cash- It should be pretty clear by now but my cash game stacks are the Oakland A’s and the Texas Rangers. A’s more so for me, but they should be pretty chalky tonight. For the A’s it’s Chapman and Krush for sure. Then look at different pieces of the lineup including Pinder, Phegley, Semien and others. When it comes to the Rangers I like the combo of Choo, Gallo and Andrus. Then you can look into Mazara, Odor and Cabrera.

GPP- For GPPs, and some may consider these cash as well, but I am looking at the Boston Red Sox and the Houston Astros. The Bo Sox are looking to flex their muscle vs Hess. Get your J.D. and Betts for sure and then fill in with Xander, Devers, Mitchy and others. The Astros are in a lock and load spot vs LeBlanc. I really like Altuve and Correa with the supporting cast from there.
